  4. Not planned, but we've got a new friend.
After my mate died end of October, the idea was to wait untill our oldest dog passes and then look for another dog, when we're ready for one.
But, then we saw this little guy

  5. Thanks to everyone who expressed concern about Iggy and wished him a speedy recovery as it seems your collective thoughts and prayers worked.

I was really worried about him last night because he fell asleep under my bed but when I asked him to come out so he could come onto the bed with me, he was barely able to open his eyes and he only got halfway out before giving up. When he eventually got himself out, he was too weak to climb or jump onto the bed, so I had to pick him up and his usually shiny and silky fur looked dull and bedraggled. At some point in the night, he must have got up and drained his water bowl, because I woke up at 445am freezing cold and soaked to the skin on account of the fact that he'd vomited it up all over me. :(

Anyway....this purging seemed to have done the trick as he was pretty much back to his old self, so after taking him downstairs so he could go out for a pee, he ate a little bit of food and when I stripped the bed, he was doing his usual thing of trying to claim the bedding as his own by grabbing onto it with his front paws and fighting me for it. I couldn't get back to sleep with no duvet on the bed, but eventually we dozed off and woke up again at about noon, when he wolfed down a bowlful of food and was then begging toast off my son.

The only thing I can think of that was out of the ordinary yesterday, is that I caught him trying to eat the leftovers of my son's lunch, a hot and spicy chicken wrap that was liberally laced with West Indian hot pepper sauce, some of which he might have licked up. The last time he snaffled some spicy food it just made him sneeze, but I wonder if he had a reaction to it this time around, albeit a few hours afterwards.

  6. Glad he’s on the mend… :upyeah:

Dogs have guts of iron- there’s been many occasions I’ve given ours the remnants of a spicy vindaloo after I’ve come in half pissed. They wolf it down and don’t bat an eyelid…… they might shit all over the kitchen later but they don’t bat an eyelid :laughing: only kidding, they’re fine…

  7. Mine are constantly eating something they shouldnt over the fields (aka the extension to their dinner plate). Few hours of feeling sorry for themselves and theyre right as rain. Glad it seems a similar scenario :upyeah:

  8. I remember reading somewhere that it is evolutionarily advantageous for dogs to eat first and ask questions later, because in the wild food is scarce, so it's best to risk it and then throw up later rather than risk going hungry.

While that might be true of most dogs, Iggy is usually pretty fussy and turns his nose up at even good quality wet dog food. Tbf, canned dog food smells absolutely rank, so I don't blame him for holding out for his usual mince and fish!

  10. Great news, @Zhed46 - it's always a worry when they're not themselves and such a relief when a good puke fixes it all.

  11. Even cod and haddock?

I also cook him a kilo of roast beef every week, so it’s no wonder he looks hurt and offended when I try to fob him off with Pedigree Chum

  12. I was really upset last night because when he couldn’t get himself out from under my bed, I thought he was fading away…….

……only then for me to feel like a right soppy old fool when I woke up next morning covered in his vomit, with him carrying on like nothing had happened :joy:

  16. Hmmm, only if there’s a ton of batter round it then drowned in vinegar. And it has to be pure white…

Went for a posh tasting thang with Mrs Cringe last week. And they kept bringing fekin fish out!! I just had to pretend I was on a bush tucker trial….

Seems he doesn’t like fish either, go figure?
Although it doesn’t seem he’s much interested in any food really, unlike our last cat, who I’m sure was part spaniel :joy:
Tried a few brands of quality cat food and some he eats, some he won’t but he’s certainly not a fan of the fish flavours and he’s certainly a grazer when it comes to food, either that or I suspect his previous (elderly) owners probably spoilt him rotten with cooked human food and I ain’t starting that game!

  18. Currently trying to wean two of mine off Lily's which they seemingly have a strong penchant for at £18 for 6 tins in tesco :sob::sob: (was £15, gone up £3 a crate in the last month too - how the fuck do you justify charging £3 a tin of DOG FOOD??!!)

  19. They don't have to justify... all the while mugs will pay for it (....that obviously excludes you now ;)) Ours are 100% fit and healthy on 'Butcher's Tripe' (+ other stuff) :upyeah:

  20. His diet for the past couple of years has been these brands of kibble, plus roast beef or cooked mince or fish (he also loves tripe, but I'm not keen on the way it makes the house smell like a farmyard), plus raw carrot and sometimes a bit of scrambled egg. He also has goats milk at least once a day, which he absolutely loves.

However, AFAIK, a dog's diet is supposed to be 80% protein, and so I'm not keen on him eating kibble, which is about 50% grain based and the one in the blue box also seems to make him very thirsty all the time. Hence, why I was trying to transition him to wet food, but he's turned his nose up at everything I've tried so far, although I haven't given him Lily's yet as I've been working my way up from the cheaper brands first.

I have to be careful with what I feed him as he is very fussy and he is so naturally lean (I'm convinced he's got more than a bit of whippet in him) that it only takes a couple of missed meals for him to start to look really skinny.
