  1. Puppy club - he has jabs next Fri so hoping we can then get out. My son has two dogs and we are looking for a puppy coin and training in the area
We’re trying to keep him awake so he will go all night til 7…

  4. He's a male spaniel, so trouble is his middle name.

I actually used to have a lovely half-Persian cat called Trouble, but he fell head over heels in love with another male cat who lived up the road and he ended up spending so much time there that I came to an agreement with the humans that he could move in with them so long as I could visit him now and again. Sadly, the love that dare not meow its name didn't last very long as he was run over and killed a few months later. :pensive:

  5. Any recommendations for pro biotics?
My youngest has had some trouble with his anal glands over the last few months, and his shit goes from solid to like tap water as the day progresses.
He eats the same kibble and soft food the other two do and id prefer not to have to go down the route of raw just for one dog.
    TIA

  6. Iggy’s had more than his fair share of digestive disasters in the past year (it turned out to be a chronic Giardia infection) and Pro-Kolin+ always seemed to help get his guts back to normal after an attack.

It is a liver flavoured paste and even though he’s extremely fussy, he never rejected his food when this stuff was mixed in with it.

  7. +1 for Pro-Kolin+ :upyeah: Promax is also good, so either for loose stools/infrequent diarrhoea. If not resolved in 3 days, then off to the Vets. Panacur 10% wormer is often prescribed for treating Giardia infections. I use it now as a regular wormer for all of ours and it's also fine/recommended for when they're pregnant and for new puppies.
Anal gland issues don't usually = sloppy poos, so I would look elsewhere for the cause of that, although what you've described isn't unusual for a young dog. They test everything with their mouths. Our Nell (5 months old) often has the same 'solid in the morning and sloppy by evening'. Each of ours have a raw chicken wing every morning (I get them from Tesco). It's a good source of calcium, the enzymes in raw help reduce plaque and the bone bits coming out the other end help to scour their anal glands and keep them clear. Our Gwen used to suffer with blocked anal glands, but since reintroducing the raw wings some years ago now (we stopped for a while for some reason ??) she's not had an issue. Their evening meal is a mix of kibble and Butcher's Tripe (tinned loaf).

  8. Plus 1 for Panacur.

Iggy was absolutely plagued with recurring bouts of severe diarrhoea and passing blood about every 3 to 4 weeks for about 4 months. It all started when I was playing cricket in August and while I was out in the field one of the opposing team members gave him a bowl of water that was coated in green and brown slime.

After various blood and stool tests a Giardia infection was identified in November and 3 days of Panacur at half dosage, then repeated after 3 weeks, cleared it up.

He’s like a new dog tbh - appetite and energy levels are back to normal and he’s nowhere near as thirsty anymore. He absolutely loves tagging along on my son's 10k training runs, but it got to the stage where he couldn’t keep up and kept gassing out; however now he’s better, he could easily do another 10k when he gets back home again.

  10. BTW....If anyone is visiting Crufts this year, we'll be there on Pastoral day (Saturday 9th March). I'll be on the Border Collie 'Discover dogs' stand with our Nell, and Mrs Biscuit (Sue) will be showing. We have 6 entered in their respective 'Conformation' classes. Would be smashing to meet you. Just come and introduce yourselves :upyeah: Our affix (KC name) is 'Calareto'.

  11. It might be the other way round. When I was learning more about the internal workings of the canine cloaca than I ever cared to know, I read that runny poos can lead to impacted anal glands because the act of defecation doesn’t express them to the same degree.

When Iggy had his last battery of tests I asked the vet to check and express them, which she did, all over her own face, arms and chest. As I’m sure you can imagine, it was deeply unpleasant. Still, it could have been worse…….it could have been me that it happened to rather than her :D

  12. This might be a daft question, but can you bring a dog if you’re not showing?

  14. Sorry no :pensive: Crufts is the only UK show that doesn't allow 'spectator' dogs. Our Nell hasn't qualified for competition. She was/is still too young for the last qualifying comp (they need to be 6 months old to compete). She'll be there with me on the BC Discover dogs stand though. That's where the public can meet and ask questions about the breed. All breeds have their own DD stand btw.

  16. Took the knob heads out this morning in the car/van to the local park where they got covered head to toe in mud, even the little girl who usually doesn’t like getting her feet wet.

So I decided to take them to the stream at the bottom of my road on the way back and wash them off before we got home.

Of course the stream was quite full after all the rain the last few days, and being at the bottom of a steep hill, and I definitely didn’t realise how full and fast it was cos I threw my oldest one in and he washed a few metres downstream with the current and couldn’t get back lol.

So in I went with welly boots on thinking id be fine and straight over the top – two boot fulls of icy cold water – lovely.

Grabbed the boy by the scruff of his collar from the other side of the bank and pulled him back and tried to get the other two cleaned in a slightly safer manner (the springer was fine cos hes a lot bigger).

At the point I had my little girl in the stream, moaning her little ginger arse off, the people whos gates id parked in front of decided they wanted to get out.

    Fucking nightmare.

All four of us back in the van, the dogs drenched with no time to towel down, me with two bootys and off we go on our "merry" way.

All while being watched by a BT man pissing himself laughing on the other side of the road.

    Hows everyone else’s weekend started?

  19. Yeah soggy weather here, so lots of mopping the floor every time we head outside.

3 times so far today, one of them escaped and ran straight across it - I really dont understand how the hell so much muddy water gets into one set of ruddy paws!
