I tried yu move etc didn’t touch the sides. Only thing that *helped was librela and I didn’t want to get him back on that. Saw this product on fb and the comments were so overwhelmingly positive I gave it a go. He dived in the river today for a swim for the first time in nearly 12 months. If you have a dog suffering with aching joints I’d definitely recommend giving it a go.
Well... I've seen it all now. It was barely raining in town & there was a couple with a small poodle like dog that was wearing a waterproof raincoat.... The owners themselves were noticeably overweight and festooned in labelled 'country' wear even though the farthest they had probably walked was the 200 yds from the cake shop to the pub. The only one that looked embarrassed & self conscious was the dog....(the pic isn't of the actual dog)
When we had the hound he used to have a pilchard in his evening feed. We used to buy a complete pack of cans from Lidl.
Mine get the odd can of sardines in tomato sauce which they love too. Good for hiding medicine in too.
I’ve posted this on here before but my Kenny in his wax Barbour jacket looks spiffing I think we can all agree
Please everyone say a prayer or make a wish for Iggy as he’s very poorly. He’s had an issue for a while now with excessive thirst and had a bit of a crisis a few months ago. The vet was baffled but nothing showed up on blood or urine tests and he seemed to get a quite a bit better again until this week. Late this morning he was in a bad way - wouldn’t eat, very weak, lethargic and confused. I took him to the vet, he was referred to the animal hospital and admitted to the ICU a couple of hours ago. I’ve seen the vet now. She was thinking possible brain tumour but blood test results came back while she was speaking to me. He has very high levels of ammonia in his blood. So It looks like it may well be a liver defect called a “shunt” where a blood vessel bypasses the liver which results in the blood not being purified and causes a build up of ammonia. That would also account for his behavioural changes as it effectively like being poisoned or intoxicated. Another possibility is a brain tumour, but the ammonia result seems to indicate liver issues. The liver shunt comes in two types - either a large blood vessel or lots of tiny vessels. The first one is treatable with surgery and the other one can sometimes be treated with medication. However, surgery depends on whether he is well enough to survive it. They’ve given him something to bring the ammonia levels down, some pain relief and he’s been sedated. Next steps is a more detailed scan of his liver, which hopefully should happen this afternoon.
Thirst would point to liver in my limited experience. Good luck mate, you’ve got him in the right hands and thinking of you, it’s a real tough time x
I just saw him before they took him for his liver ultrasound. He was very drowsy but he opened his eyes and tried to get up when I said his name. I spent about 5 minutes with him, just stroking his ears and looking into his eyes as I couldn’t give him a proper hug and kiss because he was in a kind of cot. They should have the prelim results in an hour or so
Hang in there… We had a scare last week. Wife called me in tears reckoning big Frank had the big C. He’s not 4 yet… Looking more like an infection now and he’s getting back to his mental self. He’s knocking the arse out of it now mind. Still getting a chopped up chicken breast in his bowl every night… bah…
Thanks everyone. Update. The news is as positive as it can be in the circumstances. The scan showed he does have a liver shunt and it looks to be operable, but the scan was a little unclear due to swelling. Next steps are to stabilise him in ICU over the next few days, maybe scan him again, get his ammonia levels down and then send him home midweek. They’ll operate in about a month and he’ll be on a low protein diet for the rest of his life. This is a congenital defect which he will have had from birth and as a result, his liver is very undersized due to the reduced blood supply. It may regenerate to some extent as he’s a relatively young dog (5y 5m). The toxins in his blood have put extra pressure on his kidneys so they’re also quite enlarged at the moment. I spent about 5 minutes with him again just now. The side of the cot was down so I could get closer to him - he was awake but very drowsy, though he knew it was me as he was licking my nose, then he got himself half up and draped his head over my shoulder. He’s very poorly but stable. I’m off home now and they’ll update me in the morning. Once again, thanks
