Devastated for u mate, absolutely beautiful dog :-( I love my spaniel a worrying amount, honestly he is my first dog that's 'mine' having grown up with family pets, this is so different (u can tell I don't have kids yet!) Hope you are looking to get another?
Thanks Phil and everyone that responded. Bloody painful and still sorely missed. Dogs are strange animals, they expect nothing and give everything. We found home a bit unbearable, so we have just got new pups, little cockers. Couldn't get a Springer, wouldn't have been fair. I still miss our dog, but we needed to do what we felt best for her. We needed to get more dogs, we love having them around us, but yes, there was doubt about getting more. Maybe we are being heartless getting more dogs, but we will never forget her and she is close by. Life with them is busy but you can't have it any other way. Thanks for taking the time to post. Much appreciated.
Can't see how u could have done any better mate, slightly different type of spaniel that u can't draw comparison. My sister had a Springer for 12 years and it's why I love spaniels, he went 6-7 years ago and I miss him like he left us yesterday, but I have a working cocker and he has a similar personality but different enough to not remind any of us too much of the springer! I like to think that they love us so much they feel that if they can't 'look after us' they would want others too! Here is my little monkey this am, milking a selfie! He is 2 and my missus cries if he goes to stay with the puppy sitter and we come home to a empty house!
Lovely dog, I'm sure he's spoilt rotten. I've no decent pics of the pups, but will post something later, wife has shed loads as you can imagine. Yeh Maybe they are looking after us. Never thought of it that way.
Beautiful doggy! The show cockers are quite a bit different to working cockers for sure! Mine used to get confused for a Labrador when he was a pup
You probably felt quite a bit of guilt , I know I did , about getting your new pet but your new pet isnt a replacement for your lost one . This is a new chapter . You wont regret it . I stll mourn my old labradour and she lost her battle in 2002 had two lakelands since but you never forget them .
I feel for you chap - when my cat Barry the Bengal got a urine infection years ago I spent £1200 at vets trying to save my little mate. When they told me no more could be done and he was in terrible pain I couldn't even go to vets to sign the paperwork to put him out of his agony - my daughter went for me and I cried for days and swore I would never have another pet and put myself through it all again.Anyway that was 7 yrs ago and 6 years ago Ralph walked into my life! Barry is gone but never forgotten! Good luck chap
My sisters springer looked identical, his name was spencer and was a English springer, the most expressive dog I've known
No,not heartless at all! Sounds like any dog living with you has won the lottery compared to the miserable lives some inappropriate owners give to their animals.
Can't stand spineless people who mistreat animals, every time I see a guide dog doing its duty I genuinely well up, they are mans best friend and if that makes me 'soft' then fair enough!
I'm not really a dog person but get to like friends dogs when I get to know them.I could never ever be cruel to any animal and I've always thought that any person capable of animal cruelty could be the same with children
Evosparrow I missed this till now so sorry to read of your loss It's an awful feeling of loss when you lose your beloved dog Nice to see you have some littles ones though When we had our Alsatian put to sleep I brushed him for the last time and kept his brush with his hair so I could feel him when it was too much to bear
Tbh mate he looks pretty much show cocker, domed head and low ears. And ridiculous massive paws! This is our friends show cocker 'Alfie' And our working, for comparison. Love them! He has been expensive though! Diet sensitivity, suspected epilepsy for a short time, seems to have got healthier with age (we hope) but if u have a cross bread it's probably sensible. I personally feel that pedigree's are being really over bread at the mo, not sure if it's the same for all pedigree, bug spaniels for sure.
