Just got a preliminary comment from my dealer " Absolutley, we will do a check of the bike during the rim exchange. The top box is most certainly the cause of the wobble according to Jerker (ceo of bike and former road racing rider ). With a top box it creates turbulence between the rider and the top box which makes the bike more instable at high speeds. With a passenger and top box the air flow will be better and the bike should in theory become more stable.
If you only need to carry small bits , try the Kriega US 10 or 20 as these are unnoticeable when attached to the rear seat (solo) as I use this for waterproofs, puncture kit , spare gloves etc . I also use the micro Motech tank bag , again unnoticeable and no wobbles with both. Glad your sorted now.
About the Top Box: Just my opinion of course but my order of importance is as follows: 1) No Panniers 2) OEM Paniniers 3) Automobile 4) Train 5) Bus 6) Top box
So why have you only experienced the wobble on the 1 occasion, if you routinely have the top box fitted and do 200kph ? I'm not convinced there is anything physically wrong with your bike, you have just experienced the perfect set of circumstances to cause the wobble for the first time. Andy
In my opinion it must have been an unlucky combination of Topbox+ Speed+ Curve + Wind and turbulence from another vehicle... I never wobbled without top box that's a fact...my experience says that chances are we will have it sooner or later depending on external variables. I would not quote this as an exact science but for those riding with the topbox be aware!
