V4 Pikes Peak

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Steelboss, Oct 10, 2021.

  1. I saw on the Ducati web site listed in the extras they do a lowering kit for the V4 Multistrada, it fits the Pikes Peak too. Now that can only be a good thing for the handling, lowering the centre of gravity.

I’m not short, I have no problem touching the ground but I do find it a challenge getting on and off the Multi 1200s, especially with the panniers on.

I’ve always maintained there’s no need for this fashionable long suspension travel malarkey because I wouldn’t take a bike that heavy or expensive off road. It’s all a bit Chelsea tractor but with 2 wheels.

If I could get the configurator to work on my iPad, I’d add it.

  2. The info video on the new PP mentioned the higher position of the pegs due to the new mode of race ,with the adjusted chassis this is for clearance , lowering the PP would be a backward step . I can see it for shorter riders but the V4s as standard you can touch down , so the PP with higher is a win win , no more pinging the pegs and with sticky tyres even better . Bring on Jan .. be a bit cold mind but it will be run in by March on clear days and 8 hrs of cleaning each time

  3. Apparently, compared to the 1260, the normal V4 has lower pegs and a more upright riding position. On the V4PP, they’ve raised the pegs slightly, and given it a bit more lean, so the riding position is virtually identical to the 1260.

  4. Yeah but you probably get a 50% trade discount!

  5. I wish! :p

  6. I will have a look into this as the 1260 is only 6.6 inch ground clearance and the V4 is 8.6 so my feeling looking at side shots of both bikes the V4 has lots more , add the extra up and back of the new PP I would say it’s a lot more peg clearance . Again not sure so will keep digging .

  8. As previously mentioned, I like the new MTSV4PP but I don't care for the pretentious #1 on the livery.
Notwithstanding, I echo your comment about having two bikes in lieu of an expensive trade.
I can't see any justification to trade a fully equipped (incl panniers) 2018 MTS 1260 Pikes Peak with 17,000 kms on it.
However, I am considering trading the Monster as I'm itching for another Panigale to pair with my Multi.

  9. Sort of see your points but I had a 1200s back in 2011 and as much as liked the bike the riding position was restrictive and uncomfortable ( one point raised many times in reviews) and the pillion also uncomfortable the bike was lumpy , fast but fun I agree , now lets go to the V4s . Comfortable all day long for pillion , rider can move around solo , not stuck in a banana seat smooth as a randy Italian bachelor and above all a great improvement in the range ( for me ) now enter the PP V4 even better , all day comfort , faster , better and one other thing I only have one bum so I like to gel with one bike as I do 1200 to 1600 miles a month on pleasure only riding , not all year but a lot , take folks touring ( or as I call it tarmac chasing) in Spain and France . I have come from the 1250Gs and thats a good bike , loads of torque relatively fast , well mannered and capable of chewing a set of boots in 1500 miles.

  10. Why is the V4PP faster than the V4S? On the open Roads (not a track) I would doubt there would be any difference, after all - Its not what you ride BUT how you ride it!

I have nothing against the PP except its cost against the same spec V4S, great if that what you want and we are all different - thankfully. I agree about the GS, good bike except that I never liked the Front end feeling - that is NO feeling, I could never tell what was happening, it just felt neutral all the time until it let go, unlike the Multi's that I have had that give great front end feel.

  11. Because the PP is 4kg lighter, silly!

  13. Exactly.

  14. Sam, its the same engine as the other MTSV4's and look at their service intervals,I asked Tony Cowley in person who confirmed this. This hopefully has put that to bed.

  15. I am the opposite, I love the GS front end. Best out there IMO. So planted that even wet roads are still fun. Just needs good tyres such as ContiRoadAttack3 and it is sublime, standard tyres go in the bin. Front has never budged, though the back can get loose when on the throttle early.
It is difficult to find a bike that feels as secure, hence now on my second one after a brief encounter with a 1290gt.

  16. Anyone know when the journalists get a go on one?

  17. I meant the V4s and the PP V4 are faster than the 1260 … maybe you missed my point in the post and a few more ..

  18. They’ve already ridden them a few weeks ago.

  19. I found the same on mine. It must be something to do with the telelever front end.

  20. Not sure where that comes from. They both put the same horsepower to the rear wheel and the 1260 has some peaks in the torque that the V4 doesn't. What makes one faster than the other? Which ever one has the faster rider will be the fastest
