V4 Pikes Peak

  1. Neither the latest v4 PP OR the M100xr.
    The multi is just too big, heavy and long. The XR, too manic. 200 pointless horses, as it is all top end. Much prefer the xr styling, weight, size…(everyone is different eh?) but just dont like where those engines make the power and torque. If only they could package the new boxer 1300 in that chassis…Or Ducati could do a slimmed down PP or a fattened up (read sporty) 950 with a 17” front.
    Defo the part of the market I am interested in, but the manufacturers do not seem to be realistic with the end products :thinkingface:

  2. I agree. The Multi V4 has gotten too big, tall and heavy. I view the 1260 Pikes Peak already big enough.
    The V4 engine doesn't make that much power down low to mid either relative to the V-Twin.
    Unless a vanity purchase craving comes along, I'm keeping the 1260 for as long as I can.
    Moreover, I wouldn't know what to replace it with given the current offerings.
    What you're describing as a slimmed down PP or a fattened up (read sporty) 950 with a 17” front is essentially a 1260 Pikes Peak.
    I like the XR but I would also like more low end power. I'm not a fan of the boxer engine but BMW has the R 1250 RS if you're into that.

  3. I wonder if that’s why KTM are selling a lot of the 1290 Super Adventure. Still a twin not as tall and lots of torque in the range?

  6. There is a new 950 Multi due to be released in the next few weeks. There are a few spy photos on the internet.
    Ironically the V4 has a shorter wheelbase than the 1200/1260 Multis but I do agree it doesn’t feel like it.

  8. I've just ordered a set of these, can you actually adjust the height of the gear lever peg with these? To allow extra room for large touring boots?

  9. Dont get the weight being too big on the Multi V4 s, personally I can throw it around with ease , its the rider not the bike
    I ride with KTM 1290 / 990 / 790 /S1000 R etc , the V4s just works its a great engine and chassis and they love to chase , but never catch up , challenge yes , but the Multi just pushes so well and the motor is sublime ( same as PP but better on back roads and changing surfaces , as is the norm now with the state of the u\K roads) Dont think a 17 inch front and high rpm power makes you faster as its not the case with the track focused V4\rs and its wanabe PP

  10. How can the PP be a wannabe, it was launched first. And has a different engine. I know I shouldn't rise to your nonsense, but can't help myself sometimes, you git.

  14. Thanks for that. It's a good read albeit with perhaps some BMW exaggerations (fat mid-range and low-down grunt??? Relative to what?).
    IMHO, it's also the wrong shoot-out. Should have been the S1000XR vs the MTS V4PP. Alternatively M1000XR vs the MTS RS.

    I've reached-out to Micheal about this where the he stated that the choice of Ducati was one of relative price.
    Not necessarily in so many words but he mentioned that the horsepower numbers does not do justice to the M1000XR where it has loads of mid-range power. Moreover, his following words were as follows:
    "These two bikes are rapid beyond belief on the road and you can’t even get to with a few percent of what their engines are capable of. The things that separate them is the other, less tangible stuff, like character, grip, handling, comfort etc. The Ducati was the more rounded bike and the BMW the balls-to-the-wall superbike on stilts."

  15. Personally speaking I wouldnt be spending 30k on a big heavy 'sports tourer' for track work anyway , even if they would have you believe 'you can turn up and scare superbikes' :thinkingface::thinkingface::thinkingface:

  16. Just back from touring Spain on the PP, 30,000 miles in, it's been a blast :punch:.

    Still have my 2018 1260S which has now 58k on the clock.
    88k miles in 6 years, think I need to get out more :neutral:

  18. So good to see somebody putting a lot of miles on these bikes, it's what they are made for. Don't get why are so many are scared of "high" mileage touring bikes, and won't buy a 2-3 year old bike if it's done more than 2000 miles. If Ducati (and other manufacturers) put a 4 year warranty on them they are very confident in reliability, warranty claims cost them money, I know there are weak points (quick shifter), but not many.
    My V4 PP is obviously barely run in at 19K miles :upyeah:
