V4 Pikes Peak

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Steelboss, Oct 10, 2021.

  1. As I interpret this situation, in the event any dealership agrees to fit this type of accessory to any road-going motorcycle, in the knowledge that this is the manner in which the bike will be being used, then they are likely to be complicit in the bike owner ignoring the law and with not being covered under their insurance. I acknowledge the ability or the appropriateness of linking them directly to any future incident, is fraught with complexity.
However, they too have an obligation to ensure the potential accessory 'owner' completely understands and appreciates their position, once this item has been fitted.
They ought to, again IMO, be required to ask the question too, before they agree to fit the part(s), thereafter, assuming the bike owner confirms they understand the situation, they will have adequately covered the issue.
    Just a thought!

There’s a list of modifications I can make without notifying them including exhausts. However, they have ‘road legal’ stipulated against exhausts so I would have to call them and state the exhaust I’m fitting isn’t road legal which, I presume wouldn’t be agreed to?

They appear to cover the factory/dealer fitted argument as well by stating original specification?

This appears to put the onus on me as it clearly isn’t a grey area.

Ultimately, it’s always going to be an individual call as to whether there’s a genuine risk that the insurance company will look to dump you in the event of a claim. Personally, given the value of the PP, I wouldn’t be comfortable and the race exhaust doesn’t sit high enough up my list of must haves to change that. I would like it though…..

  3. I’ve emailed my insurance company this morning, clearly stating that the exhaust isn’t road legal in the UK, and asking if they’ll insure it. They’ve come back with a couple of questions, which I’ve answered, so I’ll see what they come back with.

The full system isn’t the be all and end all, but would be nice to get the full potential from the bike. I like sleeping at night though, so if they won’t cover it, I’ll take that off the vast list of accessories. This could have a huge impact on Akrapovic’s income.

  4. Interestingly Bennetts only company I've spoken to that asked direct "is it road legal" question. And then said they won't cover it....unsurprisingly

  5. I'd be surprised if any insurance company will cover a bike if you tell them it has a race exhaust fitted, TBH.

This is on the Devitt website:
Exhaust (not road legal) MODIFICATION Up to £400 Any Non Road Legal exhaust end-can should not be used on the road. Noise, Performance (Minor)

  6. It was mentioned about a year ago that the government/ insurance companies would start cracking down on aftermarket accessories being fitted to cars/ bikes. It would appear that time has come. How long before companies like Evotech/ R&G go out of business, as I’m sure they’ll be next on the hit list.

  7. It’s a NO from Bemoto. According to my dealer, Ducati insurance will cover it, so I’ll check with them in the morning.

  10. Enjoy the day :upyeah:

I remember when I bought my first Multi, Ducati provided the best quote by a pretty decent margin. On renewal, they were nowhere near. I wondered at the time if it was a marketing ploy to make sure potential purchasers weren’t put off by insurance costs? Not that I was complaining and, when the time comes, will certainly go with them again if they’re the cheapest.

  11. Breaking way from insurance for a moment.

Does anyone know when/why Ducati dropped the add-on packs for the PP on the configurator? I could have sworn there were options there for urban, touring etc?

I see the V4S still has a few options so seems a bit strange you can’t get the same for the PP.

  12. When: the other day when they changed the configurator to have that warning message about full systems
    Why: no idea!

One thing though... I noticed the price of options hasn't had the 3% uplift that the actual bikes have. No idea if related, but kinda interesting. I think someone said elsewhere that some of the packs had increased in cost

  13. Blimey , I was told , and told twice , race system ( non road legal ) no cover.
Prior to that I was covered but only told them the system was below the power increase they asked about , but once they knew non road legal , different answer.

  14. without system not with :upyeah:

  15. Opps , forgot the french bit ...

  16. Has anyone had their delivery date pushed back? I've got a mate who has been told his date is pushed back 2 months to November.

  17. Not on my side - I spoke to my dealer last week and it’s still July. That said, my delivery date is far enough away that they could be hedging their bets until nearer the time although that doesn’t really tally given your mate’s notification.

  18. I've not had any issues (so far) insuring my 749R with the full factory 'banana' exhaust - I simply listed it as a factory option that was fitted before I bought the bike and wasn't asked about legality.

  19. nice that the new bike arrives on the day with good weather  Quick 100 miles and mightly impressed. just need the tail tidy and few bits that still waiting for :upyeah: 20220310_160102.jpg
