V4 Pikes Peak

  1. Heated grips, heated seat, a centre stand and radar are musts IMO. The latter will be contentious but I'll come back to that in a minute. The Ducati panniers IMO look much better on the bike than any of the aluminium aftermarket ones plus there's no need to add additional mounting frames. The trade off is they aren't as voluminous as some of the aftermarket ones so just pack frugally.

    Now the radar. Not everyone is convinced of it's value but the Blind Spot Detection is an absolute life saver and will be available on a lot more bikes in the coming years. The Adaptive Cruise Control is also very very useful even here in Ireland on N roads - it's use is not just limited to m-ways. Now, IMO, the real reason for speccing and paying for the radar option is your ability to resell the bike down the road. I have always thought that not to have radar was a bit like speccing a Mercedes with non-metallic paint to save a few bob, great at the time but you lose ore on resale than you save as no-one wants it. That belief was driven home just a few weeks back when a US based V4S owner who decided not to spec radar on his bike was moaning across various Multistrada FB groups because no dealer would offer him a trade in value against a new bike :astonished:. Not one. Why? because, when he asked he was told it didn't have radar and they wouldn't be able to sell it on. Get the radar.

  2. Did I meet you on the Santander ferry last September? I met a guy from Cork on a MS V4S.
    Is the radar not standard on Pikes Peak? I don’t seem to see it as an option on the configurator.
     
  3. Yep, radar is standard on the PP, don't worry. It's a great thing to have as mentioned above

  4. Btw, if you spec heated grips (which you should), don't expect to see them any time soon. There's a huge shortage. Still waiting for mine and I took delivery in July!

  5. Congratulations on the new PP:

    I am excited about the new PPV4 because it is more versatile than ever, sportier and more touring than any MTS... if you want. On curvy roads of all kinds and asphalt and especially on bad and twisted ones it is superior to any sports car (easier and more fun everywhere) and also, you can travel with it as a couple to the end of the world....

    I don't like 19 rims (in 17 there are much more to choose from according to taste), and I come from previous MTS and I don't want a "normal" trail and I like that sporty/multivalence mix with light forged rims, which gives it a touch special to the whole

    I put a lot of extras on it that I had on other bikes and that I didn't want to do without and new ones.

    Touring Pack: heated grips and the 3 suitcases with their interior bags, and a kickstand that when you are loaded is appreciated for parking.

    Gas cap without key (in my previous PP and I love it)

    Rear dynamic led (I had the same style in the previous PP)

    Original smoked touring screen (use for long trips as a couple). You can keep the helmet visor up and talk to the passenger without getting wet even in the rain and without slipstream problems. The rest of the year I wear the carbon one.

    Some carbon parts (this bike has little carbon from the factory for my taste)

    Heated high seat. Due to my height I am more comfortable with this high seat and in the high position, and thus the handlebars are lower and my legs are less stretched but reaching the ground with both soles without problem. And the heating is much appreciated on colder and rainier days, and my wife also loves it.

    The extra lights, I put the original ones. I have some photos where you can see them. They look really good, they are very "flirty" and they are hardly visible as they do not need defenses or fittings (golf ball size). This summer I had the opportunity to use them doing mountain passes at night and they really work very, very well, although they are not essential, they help to ensure safety on this type of unpainted road. I've never ridden them on a motorcycle before, but I liked them and wanted to try them and with the integrated switch. If you like riding them, they won't let you down.

    I think pressure sensors should be mandatory on motorcycles of this type, since they help you avoid scares due to punctures, and Ducati offers you a 10-year warranty on the battery, so you can not worry about them for many years.

    As a tank bag, I like the Sw motech better because of the magnetic anchorage and the Micro bag, which suits my taste more.

    I am delighted with the motorcycle and the extras chosen.

    By the time my bike comes up for sale it will be so well used that the retail value will not be an issue.

    If you have someone triggering your rear radar you're not going fast enough!

    I can think of times when the front radar would come in handy e.g. in slow moving traffic when your attention is waning and the vehicle in front stops suddenly.

    I slowed down once and the rear radar was triggered by the white van man I did not see as (unusually) I was taking in the vista. Great extra

  10. @Multirider75 because I know he's done it, but anyone that has removed the rear footpeg hangers.

    I had a go at mine over the weekend and they didn't show any signs of moving. I took the mature decision to walk away and try another time, maybe with a bit of heat added.

    Has anyone else struggled?
     
  11. yup, removed mine. managed without having to add heat but they were tad reluctant.

The front radar has it uses, 3 of us were heading through spain in sept and had a stretch on the motorway to get to the ferry, front rider doesn't have cruise, I'm 2nd and have cruise (not ducati) however because the front rider doesn't the speed is fluctuating so I'm on off on off, 3rd rider is on a v4 and uses me as the target for radar and kills the miles with ease whilst I'm now stressed having to keep fluctuating the speed to match the rider in front.

  16. Have they really increased in price by £2k in 11 months ? good news if you secured one early launch. There’s a few up for sale now at RRP of £26751. Dealer ordered in the summer at old price I guess, will they go up again in January ?

  17. Yup tad more than that I believe. I got mine back beginning of year and dealer told me recently probably get pretty much what I paid for it if was interested in selling.
