Yeah, looks nice, but I'm not really sure what it's protecting given a PP (and most V4 MTSs) aren't going off road
I had one fitted to my 1260 and never took it off for cleaning, and the engine was fine. But if protecting the front of the engine means I have to take it off every once in a while to give it a thorough clean, it’s probably still worth it.
Wish my engine looked as clean as that. After 10k miles the headers look like they've been used as boat anchors. All in all it looks straightforward enough. I've got some time at the end of the week so will give it a go. Whilst I take the point that very few MultiV4s will ever see the dirt (mine certainly won't), and therefore don't need the engine guards, all I can say is that the amount of debris on the disintegrating roads around here effectively shot-blasts the front of the engine, so any additional protection is welcome. I've got the CF front mudguard and, try as I might, I can't get an extender to stay put (I'm not drilling the carbon fibre, so it's glue for me). The Evotech guards are a decent compromise. Plus, vain as I am, I also think they look pretty good. I don't mind taking them off for a clean, same as I do now with the oil cooler/rads guard.
Judging by the condition of the engine guard on my 1260 after 50k+ road miles, it's now mostly ally colour instead of black, I consider it money well spent as it's done the job it was designed to do and protected the engine from any road debris that's been thrown up. So the PP will also have one fitted, looks like a great design and I've no objection to taking it off from time to time for a thorough clean.
Good news. I got the call from the dealership that the bike is on its way. As recommended above I’m getting the Evotech rad guards. I see that evotech also do satnav mounts. Has anyone advice in relation to Satnav mounts? Iconic or Evotech? My nav is a Garmin XT. Thanks in advance.
I've got the XT on my PP. I'd recommend the Iconic one. Uses the same fitment that the OE one does, but is made to a much higher standard. The Evotech one mounts differently. I'm sure it's fine, but I have some comfort in knowing the Iconic one mimics the OE one (wasn't copied, it came out way before). After almost 5000 miles, I'm very happy with it still.
Fitted the head and engine guards today. Effin' freezing. Took about three hours (although some of that was taken up with making hot drinks to stave off frostbite). As I thought, it's fairly straightforward, just fiddly. Lots of grovelling about on the floor. If I had a bike lift it would have taken half the time, but I haven't so... Just a few tips. The bolt that secures the rear part of the r/h lower wing (if that makes sense) is a stubborn little sod. Well, mine was. Really needs to come off for full access to get the guards installed, although you could probably do it with the winglet in situ. The only other problem was negotiating the head and engine guard into place. Tested my spatial awareness to the limit. I think it'll get better if I have to take them off a few times to clean behind, but we'll see. I think it looks good. Very clever piece of design. Pix below. Engine has been cleaned (and has a coat of ACF50) but isn't pristine. I'm sure everyone else's looks mint...
It was cold. There was a lot of coffee to drink. Which led to other issues. What can I say? If you're handy with the spanners and have a warm space to work, more than an hour, less than three.
