Porsche 911 Rip

  1. I'm trying to lose a stone and today is a 'fast' day. I feel bloody hungry after reading this....

Sounds good though. How much is a car wrap? I'd imagine it's quite expensive. I've watched some YouTube footage and it looks quite a faff...

  2. 2.5-3.5k, depends on material used.
The chap who does my venture shield and bits does some high end toys. As an indicator a velvet effect 911 was just shy of 3.5k.

  3. Velvet affect. Don’t know about 3.5k, it sounds fucking priceless!

started mine this morning. I don’t start and run without actually driving, but with my garage not done yet and it living on the road I needed to check the new battery (of 3 weeks ago) would still be ok! These things eat batteries at a rate Ducati can only dream of!

started ok, up to temp for 10 mins so hopefully enough without damaging anything....in the garage it will live on a maintenance charger!

  4. Not my thing either but was unusual. Bet it looks shit wet though.

Does a lot of cars pre-gumball type events with various sponsors all over. Helps with stone chips etc and once it’s over can just be pulled off.

  5. 3 and a half grand to be pulled off. That must be some experience!!

  7. As OITO said, £2.5k - £3.5k, depending on the material and also the age of the car as a minter straight off the shop floor needs much less prep than a 20 year old like mine where even though it’s in generally good nick, little bodywork dings (like the one on the roof rail caused by that nutter on the M1) need sorting out, plastic fixings may have gone brittle and snap, and of course everything needs to be scrupulously clean. It also depends if you want the door shuts doing and whether the new colour is similar to the old one because if, say, you’re going from silver to matte titanium grey then they don’t need to overlap as far under the bonnet lid and behind bumpers etc as they would if it was a radically different colour like silver to orange.

Screenshot of their quotes below. The cheapest one is a matte titanium they have on special offer, the middle one is matte orange or matte Mexico blue while the most expensive is the metallic purple. The “+£400” is for the door shuts.

I’m going to give them my track bike (just the tank) first to test their work in a relatively risk free way as it’ll only be £100 or so. The S4 special will be more like £350/400 (916 tank and Panigale seat unit) as they both need a lot of prep due to having crappy temporary rattle can paint jobs which will need to be removed first and the candy apple red vinyl is expensive.

  8. I’ve no financial interest in the Chap I use other than to promote a good business, he also does bikes.
If I do bite the bullet on a SF I’ll get it wrapped. Cost for that is circa 1.2k however the limit is imagination as any design can be printed. A plain wrap reduces that Price though.
Have seen a few tanks done and was honestly blown at just how little is visible on angles.
There is a guy on the forum who does bikes and they look amazing.

    Anyone remember his forum I.D?

  9. I wonder how much my Vito van would be??.. It's boring silver but I got a good discount deal on it... Hmmm, an outrageous wrap and a set of wheels it'll look the bollox! Hmmm....

  10. £3.5 for a happy ending? May as well pay £4K and get the full treatment!

  11. If your not fussed about edges etc it can bring the costs down as it’s less involved for the fitter.
If you ever get close to a SKY tv van that have huge prints on them there just slapped on and slightly curved over bonnets/door shuts.
You wouldn’t want that on a Bentley but on a Van, not so important.

  13. That’s with a fairly detailed print, not letting the cat out the bag but think intricate tattoo :)
Also will have the radiator shrouds changed to a matte black and a few other amendments.

  14. One that blends into an ugly blob after a few years?

  15. Ha :p

  16. Ok just made me cough at first :upyeah:

  17. Don’t dismiss the Cayman. There’s an argument (yet another one!!) to be had that a newer Cayman is better than an older (996,997) 911. A £20k budget will get you a newer, lower mileage PDK model Cayman. Buying an older 911 can be a mine field. I’m sure you know the script on doing your homework before buying. One thing worth mentioning from my own experience is even if you find a well looked after 911 with all the stamps, paperwork and servicing up to date, you need a healthy budget for on going maintenance. They are older cars that were built to be used enthusiastically and things naturally ware out over time and need renewing no matter how well they are cared for. Cayman or 911, it’s a nice problem to have. The only problem with a Cayman is that it’s not a 911!

  18. Cayman will probably be a better driver. Mid engine vs rear.

But everyone will think ‘couldnt you afford a 911?’ :p

  19. I had a Boxster S and Cayman S, but they don’t really compare to a 911 for the extra special feeling they give in my opinion.

They are all brilliant cars but 911 is the ultimate, as it should be based on the cost!!
