Yeah as above. For me a bike trackday means a set of tyres so I'd expect a car one to be cheaper as I'm not going as hard.
Hmmm, maybe. To be fair the tyres on mine are no more expensive than they were 15 years ago. And of course, they're much better. Definitely use tons more fuel- 1098R= 185hp v 911 turbo= 600+hp. Pads and discs would take a caning too as would the tyres...
What tyres are you using? I'm running PS4S's and they're bloody great! I was told if I drop 6psi per corner for TD purposes they'll be more than adequate.
Yeah I'm using the same at the moment. They are definitely more than adequate and are excellent in all conditions but they've been on the car for four years and I'm going to switch to some Pilot Sport Cup tyres as I want to go more track focused and I'm not so bothered about having to be more careful in damp weather. I did find the tyres got a bit wooley once they were pushed hard on track.
Pressure wise you definitely have to keep an eye on them as they go up quite a lot in the back especially. I run ~30psi / 2 bar when hot. I run about the same on the road but I found they shot up well over 35psi once I got on track and pushed them harder and were over heating quite badly until I let them down.
Get your tyres filled with dry OFN* It will make quite a difference on Cold and Running pressures. Sprinter Van - Koni heavy track (springs/dampers) and Air Ride, so the tyres get a good work out. Fronts 45psi Cold Rear 65psi Cold London drive with an ambient of 6°C, results in a rise to 55 and 75psi respectively (18/19°C). With Dry OFN this drops the rise to around half.... And helps prevent internal corrosion. Just as a matter of interest. Once we didn't have time to deal immediately with a slow puncture, the rear was at 52Psi. It rose to the same pressure as the other side, but the running temperature was 70°C. Maximum speed 30Mph, mostly stop start traffic, South Circular. The punctured tyre was too hot to touch..... . We fitted new as the side wall wasn't 100% to my satisfaction. I'm confident of the pressure, but wary of the temperature measure as the TPS is not located within the tyre. How to get normal air out of the tyre without breaking the seal? Jack up the vehicle and let the tyre down to 3/5psi. Pressurise with dry OFN to Maximum tyre pressure (see side wall) and then let down to 3/5PSI, repeat 3 or 4 times. This will get 98% of the normal wet air out. Since we use dry OFN in bottles supplied at 270/300 Bar, by the time they get to 50Bar we can no longer use them for our statutory pressure tests. We use this remaining dry OFN to do all our bike, van and car tyres. *Oxygen Free Nitrogen.
@AirCon I thought those pressures were for a Porsche for a moment and was thinking no wonder they are going up so much!!
@bradders - check the Porsche UK Forum for advice on buying used. http://www.porscheclubgb.org/clientftp/Register/996/tec_buyers_checklist.pdf http://www.porscheclubgb.org My 997 GTS plus 1000 911’s at Silverstone in 2013.
Yeah come on. Sign the dotted. I don't see why your life shouldn't be a financial car crash like the rest of us And remember- the booze makes it all fine and dandy..... hic.....
Makes a change ( except for the mid-session interval) from shouting and accusing each other of racism or fascism though
The red one is out of budget, the fella is looking for 18k so think it’s not worth the 250 mile round trip to view. Going to see a silver auto Thursday and another if they ever answer the phone! Need to drive one first: may not be able to get in or fit behind the wheel after Christmas
Many years ago, ferrari wanted a cheaper car to match porsche and so the dino was born. Those that called themselves "true ferrari" drivers/experts decried the dino saying it was not a proper ferrari as they were co built with fiat. The 206 and 246 dino gt/gts's were so disliked that for many years they were by ferrari standards, cheap as chips as they were not well liked. Now however, they are very very sought after even by the same "experts" To the question, do you think there were Porsh models that were hated/fully ignored that as time goes on are starting to come to fruition both by the drivers and by the investors?
