  1. 550 Spyder. I think that's the very same model James Dean offed himself in.

  2. It was indeed a 550 Spyder that ended his life. :upyeah:
    Such a cool looking car.

  4. That's true. I think he got T-boned at a crossroads. And when you see the wreckage, how the hell his passenger survived I'll never know.

  5. Isn’t the conspiracy theory that the passenger was actually driving?...

  6. I think the idea came from Dean ending up on the passenger side, such was the force. Just looking at the wreckage confirms that whoever was driving the Porsche could not have survived the impact.

  7. the theory, as I understand it, the other car pulled out in front of him at a junction, probably not looking properly. Its also probable that Jimmy D was going too fast. So an accident probably.

  8. I've owned 5 x boxters, much better drive/balance than a 911 IMHO. If they stuck a bigger engine in it noone would buy it's big brother, other than for braggin' down the pub.
    My last RS60.
    @andyb will recognize the location.

  9. And back seats!! :upyeah:

  10. you ever sat in the back of one?

  11. No, but my son did for much of his childhood, which I'm sure he will agree, more comfy than the boot of a boxster?

  12. I have sat on the back seat of a Chevrolet Corvette.

Although there is no back seat, only a shelf. Not comfy and I won't do it again.

  13. Cayman probably the best of teh lot for drivability and value (sub GT or turbo).

But its not a 911, is it ;)

Hopefully the first of a few to come over the next 10 years :upyeah:

  14. A14C23A8-45CE-46A3-ABEB-FA7E9EF74B15.jpeg The Cayman GTS I hired last year was phenomenally capable and really easy to drive fast. I just didn’t get excited by the PDK box and the car the way I did in the manual Turbo or later the GT3 though. I like a more raw experience even if I am a bit slower.

  15. Silverstone! Great food upstairs. Did a day in a GT3RS. Bloody magic!

  16. Back seats are for decoration only in a 911 unless you really don't like your kids. I believe Porsche still put them in so many men can convince their wives that they double up as a practical 4 seater. Seems to work.

  17. you are right, a gimmick used by many compromised/shorter wheelbase/sporty car manufacturers to extend a car's overall appeal going back a long way. I think description disgruntlement filtered through though because the (seating) term '2+2' began to replace '4 seater' later on. I remember the Fiat Dino Coupe had really stylish rear seats that were quite lavish for the manufacturer at the time but were impractical ornaments really despite this.

  18. Up to about 8 or 9 years old, my nipper was fine in them, and loved being in a "cool car dad" rather than being super comfy in a dull euro box :upyeah:

  19. I found the rear seats saved me a small fortune in fuel. Everywhere I took it, friends kids all wanted a go, in a boxster, its 1 trip for every kid, in the 911 its 1 trip for a family of 3! also folded down they create a great storage area for a weeks clothes for touring :upyeah:
