Little rascal. Mine sits on the rev limiter at 204mph. I see he’s close there. The ECU on mine has been modified to hook 7th on the PDK. Ordinarily the 997.2 tops out in 6th on FOT and 7th can’t be hooked. Fiendish eh? And Porsche clocks ain’t far off genuine speed btw. Germans eh...
Only dark inspection, few little niggle, not driven yet and wont be until at least tomorrow, possibly the weekend.
Be interested to see how this turns out Bradders as I’m in exactly the same boat in that I talked myself into buying sub £20k 996 but was put off by IMS, bore-scoring issues etc. Ended up drooling ove 996 Turbo (has none of those issues thanks to diff engine design) BUT now £45k and alleged 4K per annum running costs. End result: bought nowt yet but still earnestly scanning auto-trader/pistinheads!!
So car turned up. Bodywork and interior look as good as described but it is a German import (suspect ex squaddie) in 2002, no oweners manual and far more corrosion than expected especially on the inner wheel rims. Had long Facebook chat with revolution Porsche who did the work last night (great guys, it wa about 930 and they were looking stuff up!) and they confirmed all the work was done. Few niggles that were not mentioned: heated rear window doesn’t work, electric mirrors don’t and the radio code doesn’t work and resets to a 1hr wait after 2 incorrect goes! Buyers remorse already kicked in and was in overload last night. Subsequent email and texts sent to selling dealer... Having driven it to work today, it’s very tight, no squeaks (apart from wind noise from the door?!) sounds lovely and quiet motor wise as no radio to listen to. Picks up OK, gears very smooth (better than my 1yr old Volvo!) I can live with the biggie, but paying too end for an import I’m not so sure about....
Hopefully you can get all the niggles sorted and have the car you've always dreamed of. I'm now looking at a bike, but would have to buy unseen and it's putting me off tbh.
you could put a request out on here to see if anybody near the bike can go have a look over and send "real world" photos, etc? decent bunch on here, I'm sure you'd get an honest appraisal. Pete
It's not unusual for porkers older switches to have a brain fart so a multimeter should be able to identify if it's a switch or the system but obviously check fuses first. Have you checked you tube re radio code? I guess the biggest thing is, have you over paid and in the world of Porsche is an import a lesser valued car? if you feel it is then you could discuss with the seller a refund of some kind which might help with the wheel inners? It's a lot of sheckles so you have to be happy if you are not then a chat has to be had. If they are things that are small and you are willing to sort them then some pennies your way would not be unreasonable.
Don't know how to tell you this bradders, so am just gonna blurt it right out. Porsche are not from the UK mate, they are from Germany, Stuttgart I believe.
Don't think I've ever bought a 2ND hand vehicle that hasn't had something up with it. Take a breath mate. Think long term.
@Cream_Revenge Don't worry, i have a very good sense of humour and did actually almost spit my coffee out reading that! Sad thing is probably half true
How it drives is by far the important part. It looked like it had all the right stuff done to make it drive like new and sounds like it does? Remember you will not really get a proper feel for how good they drive at this time of year plus they take a bit of learning before you understand how they work best. Wind noise from the doors is caused by them being hung slightly out. I had the same on mine, at high speeds it would make a right racket and drive any passenger mad. I got it looked at and it was just a case of adjusting at the hinge. The advert described it as everything working perfectly so the niggles you have should be sorted out one way or another so worth following up so you dont have to shell out cash as you have a strong case.
