  2. I'm a fan of the E-type don't get me wrong, but am a bigger fan of 911's. Old cars are charming for sure, but new cars are just dynamically better, and there's none much better after more than 50 years of development than a 911. Let's be honest, the Jag is very pretty, in fact I think the series 1 and 1.5 were the only really pretty ones, after that, they were developed to be more suited to the US market, whereby the thin back lights were changed etc. Beautiful cars yes.....But nicer than a modern 911 ??

  3. No such thing as a poor man's E nowadays, even the fat and relatively ugly V12's are fetching mega money

  4. i said: looks better, not drives better? or thou when i drove this morning etype drives buatifully!
all i can tell you - both cars parked side by side since 8.30 this morning and my etype surrounded buy people almost non stop (passers by and work collegaues) and no fucker even looking at GTS . just saying...

  5. agreed. i have 66 S1 in resto, been there for 6 months now, i recon 18 months to go. after that this 69 S2 will be for sale and 66 S1 will be a keeper for good

  6. It all depends what you want a car for, if you want people to look at you, then an older charming car will always attract attention as folk are nostalgic, and they don't see many E-types on the road. If it was an old air cooled 911 next to yours, may have been different. If you want a car to be a car, then for me, the 911 is better, and if you park the Jag next to a modern 911 Turbo S or GT3 RS, I still think the 911 looks better, but as with everything, opinions vary

  7. PS. The thread is also about 911's, so don't be surprised if forum viewers are biased toward the 911, that's what they clicked on to see :D

  8. Now started looking at Boxsters again : unamused:

  10. It’s ridiculous!
We are talking about mass produced cars with VW engine!
Event with the “normal” 6 cylinder cars is just so over priced!
I can understand the prices if we are talking about a limited series version!

  11. i just love my 911. even against new ones it looks sexier ( mine is on the left) earlier on this year IMG_0168.JPG

  12. When I first got mine I took the wife out in it and she asked "why is everyone looking at us?", so I explained that when your a little boy growing up you probably have posters of cars you dream of one day having on your bedroom wall and a lot of boys dream of having a Porsche 911 turbo. She replied "did you have a Porsche on your bedroom wall?" and I replied, "no, I never liked them, I had posters of Ferrari`s and Lamborghinis!". :grinning:

Which is perfectly true. I never "got" the Porsche fascination either. I liked the shape of the 911 turbos, but thought that they looked and sounded a bit bland compared to Ferrari`s & Lambos. But, when you need a 4 seater reliable daily driver supercar which can do 30mpg and not stand out as much as say a Lambo Gallardo might do in a public car park, you really dont have much to choose from.

  13. And off course when the cars get expensive so do the parts.
I have some Fuchs 4.5 inch wheels on my vw beetle.
Where not cheap when i bought them 10 years ago.
But no they are 4-5 times more worth then what i paid.

    Henk!!!

  14. The Boxster is a better designed car than the 911!
The producing cost was more or less the same for a 911 and a Boxster (6cyl) as they used the same parts.
More or less all mechanical parts from the 911 just bolt on to the Boxster.
    I made years ago a Boxster 986 with a 911 3.6engine! That was a great drivers car!

  16. Wash your smutty mouth out..... The ONLY reason people buy a boxster is cause they can't afford a 911 :D

See 2 minutes 40 seconds. :joy:

  17. I know I know

    I’ve been hearing that since I bought a 914 26 years ago!
    But that’s the funny thing!
As an example I love taking the ugly duck Porsche 914/944/Boxster rip off 350kg put in the double hp then I have been going every year to the Porsche day at Spa Francorchamps, I used to be in the race class with the new big boys toys!
It’s just so fun hunting new 911 racers with and old ugly duck Porsche!
They get very VERY upset :p
