That's lovely mate. And yeah, worth a bit more than 10k now. Ha ha, yes, the yuppie's car. I remember them well. A mate just set up a video shop back in the day and he managed to get one which gave him immediate God like status! It looks mint. Bet you've ploughed some time and effort into it.
My finance for the GT3 is completely ridiculous. Definitely a case of heart over brain /common sense sort of decision! I decided the only options for me were a manual turbo or a GT3 and knew I couldn't afford either so it was kind of convenient. Then some finance possibilities opened up and I decided to take the chance figuring its not going to depreciate and I can sell if I can't afford to keep paying for it. The amount of debt does scare me a bit though I must say.
Life ain't a rehearsal. Good lad... I bought mine with the intention of keeping it for 2 years and selling it on as the depreciation would start killing me. But according to the market it's gone up! Happy days.... for now. It's tucked away safely in my garage for now and will stay with me until I decide to do something really dull like pay a chunk off the mortgage. In the mean time..... NEEEEYYYYYOOOOWWWWMMMMM...... Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional
Ish, when I bought it, I spent around £2k on a small refurb and full spray job. Just going through a similar body refurb, but this time its new kidney bowls, a bit of repair to the front wings and full glass out respray. Worth doing, basket cases sell for £20 to £25k, nice ones with a sound body go for £30k + Will continue to use and enjoy it, until I need the cash one day .... probably for a pension in 15 years time.
I would love to join in but I am afraid when the time came to buy a Porsche I went for the Boxster. I had the money to buy a 911 but I really wanted a Boxster. Financially that was clearly the wrong decision. I still have it after 17 years and have no intention of getting rid. I am sure I will be viewed as a weirdo but I just love it.
New to Ducati 2 months ago and looks like a pattern is forming as also thinking of a 987.2 3.4s Cayman. Any buying advice ? Seems alot of knowledge here. Am I correct in saying the 3.4s from 2009 is DFI so no ims issues to worry about? Is RMS or bore scoring something I should be worried about? Budget is 25-30k so looking at 2010-2012 cars with less than 50k on the clock? Should I be budgeting for brakes and clutches etc at 50k???? Sorry so many questions any advice very welocme. Thanks
I'm new to them as well so can't give much advice but 50k is the mileage where I'd be taking a serious look at clutch, brake pads, discs, tyres, etc and looking for them to have already been replaced or needing it soon.
IMS and RMS not a big issue with the 3.4 Cayman as they fitted the better GT3 type seals by then. 6th piston seizures was an issue on the 3.8's 911 due too bore and water line size but not with the 3.4. They are fairly bullet proof, and since the flat 4s arrival , the flat 6 money is safe.
As I've said I have had my Boxster 17 years it's just done 64k I am on my third set of discs. It's a Tiptronic so clutches are irrelevant but I have just changed my IMS for the Pelican parts upgraded bearing. They recommend changing the IMS bearing every time you change the clutch on the models that suffer with failures
Not sure tbh. I have receipts at home for pads and disks but I'm away at work. Give any decent indy a quick buzz. They'll give you a quick estimate as it's all routine consumables.
Cheers looks like 500 ish for discs and pads and around 800 ish for a clutch. Not too unreasonable I thought.
Would you be doing the work yourself? Don't waste money on the cheapest discs you can find I did and the saying came true. Decent discs and pads are £500 and then there is labour if you aren't doing it yourself. Clutch and fitting would be at least a grand if your paying for someone to do it
Got the prices from here and tbh I m assuming labour is included and parts are OEM Porsche https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/servicing/fixed-price/porsche-cayman-3-4s-2/
