  1. We all used to be faster than we are ;)

But basic physics of lean angle and front end grip dont : unamused:

  2. Mines never been proving anything to anyone. Even in competition, I was only competing with myself.

it’s more the fact that when the bikes not within a fair margin of set up, I feel like I can’t ride and I don’t enjoy it, it’s not rewarding.

  3. Have you considered that, for your personal riding style, you may be exceeding the capability of the bike?
I know that may sound daft, given that S Guintoni rides a stock one of yours v, v quick. But, maybe, he has a different style and you are simply overreaching the capability of the brakes. Regardless of how many improvements you have made.
You are a very tall person and therefore it is not impossible that your upper body mass is further forward on the brakes, effective increasing the force necessary to stop. I am neither quick, nor a physics expert. But I would have thought that the changes you have made would have given you a very good set up.
Maybe it’s the bike, not you?
How were the 600rr and 1299 in comparison on the brakes? How heavier are you nowadays in comparison? Something is not right here. All this is probably bollocks but there must be a logical answer somewhere.

  4. I’ve been doing some scratching away in the background and whilst the brakes on this bike are generally considered crap, it’s not just the brakes, the geo is no good. Stiffen the front and the brakes don’t fade anywhere near as bad.. but then the bike doesn’t turn. Rinse and repeat.

I am heavy, however lighter than when I raced the 6 and had no brake issues on that. Infact this is the first time I’ve had brake issues in my riding career.

Everything you’re saying is logical though and all things I am looking at. Going to get the geo looked at over winter and get some new calipers.

  6. Are you buying daddy?

  7. Sure. Anytime.

  8. What suspension you got? Standard ride height front/rear? Brakes wise as you'll already know are superstock spec looking at your set up. In fact probably better if pads are good as I think they have to run standard MC too so can't be brakes.

  9. Will hold you to that

  10. It’s all I can do to get a coffee out of him, and you want a bike?!

  11. Yep, can’t run aftermarket mc in stock which I have. Calipers are overheating. Spoken to a few lads I know who run these bikes and they’ve all said the brakes aren’t great. But they’re not as bad as I’m experiencing..

geometry is something for me to look at! Also need to work on adapting my riding to the 1000 more as I suck off an apex at the mo.

mupo rear and stock R fronts which feel okay. Clearly a bit soft. It’s possible they’re at the limit of what I’m asking from them perhaps.

  12. But what’s your end game? Pro racer?

I was thinking of canning it this year. I’d lost a lot of momentum and continuity due to that super annoying fucking lockdown bollox. Said to the Mrs I wasn’t sure if I wanted to carry on with it.

So I booked a day at Donington. The weather was glorious and I had a great day. I really enjoyed myself. And considering I hadn’t ridden for ages, I was (by my standards) flying straight away.

  14. Well that’s the thing. I don’t have any real desire to return to racing either.

No man’s land.. no goals with it..

  15. Me neither. I’m just a daft auld cvnt playing on his stupidly powerful motorcycle. It’s just for fun and excitement….

  16. I’ve found in life that once you start getting serious with what used to be a fun and enjoyable hobby, then the fun slowly disappears.

  17. Yep, that’s the path my golfing took. The more I got into it, the more seriously I took it. And yeah, the fun side of it slowly evaporated. Okay once in a blue now. For fun :D

  18. Same here, not even a bike in the cave ATM. Next year's plans incorporate more (pedal) bike packing than TD's. I'll see what the world looks like next year.
Job was also put at risk this year, if it goes I'll take early retirement and work solely on being a miserable, moany old twat....:upyeah:
    Priorities will include;
    • Cutting the grass
    • Complaining about next door not getting their bin in
    • Chatting up the Romanian till operator at ALDI
    • Digging out my infected big toe nail
    • Confusing my phone with the TV remote
    • Price of prescriptions
    Going to be busy times....:upyeah:

  19. Yes - I've seen some right miserable fuckers on euro TD's, because the can't get that last .0000005 of a sec off.
