Couple of laps following a mate at the Ducati UK Trackday yesterday at Donington in the Advanced group.....
Inters seemed to be that way. The Advanced group didn’t have any Red flags and only one Yellow as far as I remember.
Off topic but TDA on Facebook has lots of posts about the high volume of stupid crashes recently. I’m less bothered about only getting one track day in so far this year now!
TDA have perpetuated the “it’s not knitting” and “if you can’t afford to repair it you shouldn’t track it” and “shit happens” mentality that causes a lot of Trackday problems. Too many amateur and wannabe racers on trackdays thinking they should be pushing their limits regardless of proximity to other riders, having little to no regard for anyone. For years they have shut anyone down that suggests it’s not racing and it’s perfectly possible to ride quickly without being a complete idiot, yet now because a few of them have fallen foul to the consequences of that mentality they are changing their tune. I cannot say I’ve seen any more accidents this year, however Inters on Thursday did seem above average. I was steady all morning because the cloud cover and wind made me a little nervous of the available grip after binning my 959 down Craners a few years back on a chilly October morning. It would be interesting to know if there was a trend in causes (rusty riders, cold tyres, mechanicals).
The DUK days groups always were too big and very poorly managed, I attended one and vowed never again. I stopped reading TDA for the same reasons you describe Ron. Too many blade riding, wannabe dick swingers. Also why I ultimately just did euros. Good to see you back BTW...
Yeah, agreed Last year was the worst year I’ve seen in the years I’ve been working at trackdays Stupid crashes too, mainly caused by bad attitude Thursday didn’t seem too bad Admittedly, I didn’t do full sessions, but I think I saw only one red flag in the fast group
Was at Donington on Tuesday and there were probably 10 red flags, mixed throughout the groups. Lots in Advanced as people tried to keep up with the BSB riders. Worst track day I've experienced though the weather was great following the fog delays first thing.
Well, it's a big heavy bus and needs better tyres, but the Streetfighter did me proud at the Doni Ducati day on Thursday https://flic.kr/p/2qhWshN
Ah, think I was behind you leaving the pits on the sighting laps, the guy in front of you was dawdling round Redgate, doing about 20mph, wtf.
Ah yeah, he went super slow for some reason Maybe thought sighting laps would be a good time to calibrate tyres or something
My first trackday, did the Niall Mackenzie novice group. I'll definitely do some more trackdays next year. Knockhill
What group was that? I had the same going out on to the sighting laps of fast group with someone looking down messing around with something. I went past before Hollywood, because although I respect the rules I am not doing a 30mph sighting lap!!
It really must have been the only thing going through his mind…… https://www.instagram.com/p/DAOAnJKooEn/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
it was fast group I was first behind the slower rider and did the same after Hollywood when others passed them as we’d have been lapped by the end of the first lap other wise
