I have only done the shorter circuit using the other half of the track, using the new garages at the Wing.
It was definitly a work out, and it battered the right hand side of my tyre, which was already knackered. By the afternoon, my rear had pretty much had it and was sliding around everywhere. I was a bit disappointed as I'd booked it before the Ducati trackstar day on the same circuit, and just assumed (wrongly) that the the national circuit included the Beckets complex before getting back onto the wellington straight, but actually just cut off early with a bumpy right hander It was fun, and it certainly helped me get my head around the right handers, but I won't be booking again unless it's the full GP circuit
Some of the tyre tearing people were getting on the right hand sides was crazy, worst I've ever seen. One guy had literally half a cm tears over the whole right half of the tyre. It looked to me like incorrect rear spring selection as it had just come back from the suspension shop, but he insisted it was good. The suspension guy at the track reckoned a combination of spring selection and going out on the cold track that morning. Interestingly I experienced pumping on the 1199 for the first time coming off the GP track onto the national straight where there's a bump. I had a couple of really bad tank slappers because of it.
Yeah, I saw some pretty bad ones when I went to see if the IDP guy had any tyres i could buy. I've worn the sides down before, but never like that. They're recently cleaned parts of the circuit surface, so I think it's a lot more abrasive than it used to be. Even on my little 600, I annihilated an otherwise virtually new rear tyre in a day, and that's not something I've done before I think I saw you have a big back end skip when someone cut in front of you in the first corner from the start finish straight in one of the earlier sessions ? You were going well
Thanks, yes that probably was me as I remember playing with a couple mates and having a few moments there My tyre was trashed in the morning and I had lost the Panigale superdrive, but I was still able to get past on the brakes; wasn't able to back it up coming out though haha.
First session i didn't like the little circuit at all, but warmed to it as the day went on...Basically good r/h practice bashing the same corners out. Thanks again to Graeme for the lift and good to meet Royal and Pineapple...
Yes OMCC I'm actually not sure about what bike I'm on myself yet either as the BMW may be getting traded in and not had confirmation that @MissPineapple new GSXR-1000 track bike will be ready for her in which case I would have been able to get out on the Triumph 675. Bloody Oulton noise limits look like taking the Panigale will be a waste of time?
I've never tested with the bungs in but I can't see it getting down to 102dB as it only just manages 105dB. Slight tangent but just reading in Performance Bikes mag that even the 959 still hits 103dB with the big ass exhaust. looks like that's on the standard cans but I doubt the termi version on any quieter.
