Preziosi out!

  1. Which bit didn't happen Ozz?

    the tyre wall?
    the salary moan?
The magic tyres? Even this year, Bridgestone who are Rossis sponsors changed the construction through the season to favour Ducati and disadvantage Honda.

    See here

Did Burgess spend less than 80 seconds on it?
90% the rider? Straight from Rossis biography, which I have read.
edwards comments about Yamaha politics and parts allocation.

    They all happened.

    bye bye Valentino.

  3. Jing-reed's Musings from Thailand: 'Bullshit Man' To The Rescue !

  4. These are good points.

Most Ducati owners accept that when it comes to racing at MotoGP level, it's very hit and miss, apart from one notable exception, it's been business as usual. I can live with this, I'd like them to do better, but the bar is very high and we should be thankful for small mercys, I am.

Whether the sports bike market will plummet as a result of real world wins in WSBK with the Pani, is a matter of conjecture, but I'm inclined to agree. At least with the Pani itself.

And here's the rub. That's partly what attracted me to Ducati in the first place. The very fact that they kicked everyones ass in WSBK for years on end said that this outfit knew what what it was doing.

So if the Pani turns out to be a flop, will Ducati face dark days? Part of me wants them to continue to be successful, but another part of me wants them to fail so as to keep the exclusivity. It gets worse.

Now zat ze germans are with us they will probably go down the tried and trusted twin-spar route and make compromises unnatural to Ducati. Lowering the perceived value of the marque. At least in my eyes.

I like Ducati better when they're the little guy taking on the big boys with fresh and innovative designs and ideas, and winning. But if losing under private ownership is now no longer viable and we have to succumb to the might of mainstream multinational clout just to carry on, I'm not sure I want it.

I don't want a twin spar Ducati, no matter how fecking good it is.

    Anyone else?

  5. Because of the death of Super Sic and lot's of crash's in 2011.. Dorna employed Cappers as a tyre safety adviser to get feedback from all racers to make a safer tyre.......
All voted for it apart from Stoner!!! go figure bullshit man

  6. Linky gives nothing apart from a home page. What was there??

Most of what you said Derek is reported as being said or happening, not necessarily a true fact.

He did not moan about his salary, he was said he had to take a pay cut which was then given to Lorenzo.

Magis tyres my arse. They changed because Vale wanted them? Rubbish. They made another tyre and the teams apart from Honda liked them.

  7. Hmmm 'fraid so. That's why I can never see myself buying a modern Ducati - I am just an old fart :frown:

  8. Do they crown doctors nowadays? I'll have to tell my daughter in law. I reckon she'll think she's been deprived of her coronation

  9. I think the thing is Ducati just does not have the financial clout to compete equally with Yamaha and Honda so they try something different.

I'd like to see them go back to the airbox carbon frame, employ a young rider with commitment who is happy to re-learn what he has learnt so far in suspension terms and make it work.

  10. 100% in agreement with everything

  11. Ducati need to win, it is as simple as that, whether thats in WSB or MotoGP. You cant build upon the marque if you can't build a race winning bike. Audi know that and if a major change is required then so be it. Preziosi's time has come and now gone, but you can't deny he managed to achieve success with his designs. For the real road riders the success of the 1199 in WSBK is more relevant, but it would be lovely to see the big red machine back at the top in MotoGP, but that may be a few years off yet.

  12. the real cost of MOTOGP is that is in such a shambles that it is no longer "on going concern"... they are up shit creek and it will take an unprecedented makeover...
either go back to mono or switch entirely to alu. apparently the mono was not developed to a point that the balance was there...

so the main question is : was it ever alive or did we not finish the work that was needed to make it work? a very very hard call...

if we go to alu, for us, Ducati Corse, we have to learn what Honda and the rest have learned over 30 years... waw, quit a challenge...
None of these options sound attractive... especially as they have no 'Tier 1' riders to convince them of anything....

and every minute the management puts in that decision, it distracts them from what is really at stake: The reputation the brand is made on: WSBK!
not beating Honda and Yam in motogp is one thing. Being beaten by BMW, Apri, Kawa and Honda in WSBK will be far more costly!

in the glory days, they could attract any rider they wanted. Now, they have to compete for those riders. And getting the best bike will be absolutely crucial..
i'm in no doubt that the crap reputation the monocoque coming out of the Motogp is already putting a lot of doubt on the pani amongst top riders...

Would i be on the board, Id argue vividly for getting out of MOTOGP and pooring those resources into WSBK , BSB, AMA, and make oriented series ( 848, 899, 1199...). That is where Ducati breathes and lives..
putting up a global series of WDW...

that and assisting the dealer networks. so they can make a living..

  13. Funny how many of the Stoner fans that complained about the "childish" critic of Stoner (with justification) now do the same to Rossi.
The truth is we will never know what Rossi asked for but never got or how much input he had.

Personally i think the answer to the whole thing is easy and it's not really a bike thing. Stoner could get performance out of the hard Bridgestones that no one else could, that's it end of. Credit Stoner for doing that, flame the policy makers if anyone for ruining the series as a result.

If Casey, Danny. Jorge etc come on here and tell me Rossi is crap, I might beleive it but from forum pundits, fraid not. It's personal opinion, just like mine is, nothing more.

  14. Just hope next season is more interesting.

Maybe Marquez with his bashing style will be a bit like Simmo was before his untimely end....

  15. I agree with you SPOONZ.

we stoner fans knew he was making up for shortcomings in the bike or the bikes compatibility with the tyre, but we just got shot down for it and told Rossi would fix it. We knew it then and we know Rossi had the exact same problems.

But you get what you give in this life, and if people don't bother to look at another point of view and are inflexible, then they cannot complain when it is their guy in the firing line. Every race was the same......Stoner can't set the bike up, what's he moaning about, he is not doing enough laps.....

Throw in the disparaging comments made by Rossi and his crew and its even more of a laugh.

i chuckled all the way through the past two years, it was so funny. Especially, when Mrs749er would ask me why people keep giving Rossi contracts or is Rossi not supposed to be good, after yet another 10th in QP.

so, of Rossi fans can't take the banter put their way, after the banter thrown the way of us Stoner fans then that's their problem. Maybe they should have been a bit more open minded.

back to tyres....how come since the magic fly in tyres have been banned Rossi never wins the championship by 100 points plus?

  16. Derek you really are quite like one of those itchy diseases. You think for a minute its all cleared up and then its back again....

    So FOS......

  17. I don't have a theory.

but the VR fans were always telling us "the doctor" will develop the Ducati and "the Doctor" can set up the Ducati.

just repeating the words of the fans of #46.

or to paraphrase Sara Palin, "how's that 80 seconds working out for ya ?"

I don't care how he got the name.

  18. Just for you Ozz

Rubber Wars: MotoGP, Bridgestone, Ducati and Valentino Rossi

shame you can't resist dissolving into personal insults.

  19. And this Kevin Cameron is who exactly. Does he have inside info like yourself or just believe everything he reads?

Sorry Derek, I am tired today after Milan yesterday, no insults really intended. I must really stop reading threads where you reply as the lack of truth in them just winds me up and at my age thats probably not good

  20. So he,s gone at last... 2 years to late!!
Anyone read edwards tweet about suter frames:wink:
