If its cooler outside that's great especially if it is also quiet. ASHP can heat and cool. I like the idea of changing my own belts, but I'll need more tools to lock cams etc...may be not brave enough yet. May be a "how to" guide on a new belt suppliers website?
And why did you fit the new leccy cables from the states? You didn't answer the last posters question on the thread discussing this as to why you didn't make your own (or did you) - dontca just love market research
Err um..not sure what this is about. I need to research it. Are we talking about up graded starter cables? And my comment was to help you...I'd like to fit my own belts, but feel I cannot find enough good advice.
AirConTechnical said: ↑ I've got them on my PP & 998S Click to expand... So you actually bought HiCap cables from America and fitted them? What did you think of them I wonder - worth the money or not?? They were kind of worth the money for me because I'm such a numty when it comes to electrics but I'm a little surprised an electrical specialist like yourself would have gone for them. #22 Are Thos Hi-cap 11 Motoelectric Ready Made Kits Available From The Uk Or Us Only?? | Page 2 | Ducati Forum
I managed to replace my belts ok. It's a task that looks more daunting than it actually is. I did replace them on a 2 valve bike twice before I did the 4 valve bike, so that gave me some extra confidence. I just followed the video instructions on the suppliers website and it was fine. It's just a matter of being patient and methodical. The trickiest bit was getting the frequency read outs to show up on the guitar tuning app I was using because the app is looking for a sustained note from a guitar string not a dull thunk as you flick a rubber belt. However, now we have an app from Gates to use which is actually looking for a frequency from a rubber belt, that side of things should be much simpler. I didn't use a cam locking tool and it was fine without.
As above, i fitted my belts on my 996 a couple of years back when I first got it. First time id done it and found it was really easy. I was already stripping bike down for a full major service, so figured may as well do the belts at the same time. Theres a few youtube guides you can follow. I found the guitar tuner I used struggled on my phone but luckily worked a treat on my works android phone. I triple checked the tension using the allen key flex method and the twist method. I too never used a cam locking tool, just a bottle of tip ex to mark up the new belts. I will have to download this gates app ready for next time as im due to change mine again in a few months.
You guys make this belt fitting sound easy - I'm not so sure - I would worry I had the timing out and fuck the valves.
There isn't a fictitious customer as you well know - maybe a Ducati dealer who wishes to remain quiet though
It is easy. Just watch the YouTube videos and you will see. When I got my 996 I was quoted over a grand by ducati for all the work I did. Ended up costing me 300quid for the bits and a day of my time.
