Probably First Of Many Questions

  1. Not sure if it's related but on the early 2000 monsters and probably other bikes, the ECU, dash and the key have to 'match', I put a monster together from 2 bikes and used the wrong dash so the bike was dead, had to put a race ECU in it that did not require the 'ok' from the key and dash before it enabled the bike ( ignition lights and start). If the 996 is the same, is it possible part of this signal path is broken so the ECU is not sending the correct command to the dash and start electrics?

  2. You might want to cross post this to the technical help bit or the 996 page, tech help might be better, if you've not already done so

  4. One thing I remember from the other day was that if the kill switch is operated only a couple of dash lights will light up and the fuel pump won't run or the bike turnover. I knocked my kill switch on the other day filling up my front brake reservoir and wondered for a few seconds why the bike wouldn't start.

Is your handlebar kill switch working properly, again just a slight thought.

Another thing are all your battery terminals and connectors clean? again if they make bad contact the bike might turn on and even the fuel pump might work but the engine will not turn over, I've had that as well, twice this week in fact as the bike had been standing a while.

  7. Result, well done

  8. There's nothing like that on 9*6 series - totally analogue with no silly ecu/key/ignition pairing.
