For an exhaust try Mark Hill, now part of Seton tuning. He is in Essex. MHP Exhausts Mark Hill has over 15 years of experience working with exhausts; fabricating, repairing and adapting systems to suit each machine's purpose.
I would advise against a slash cut can on a track bike, especially a twin as you will never pass a sound test!
I was thinking maybe something like the akras on the 2010 yamaha m1 motogp bike. Which, incidentally, I bought a really nice print of a painting of from this guy... http://seevert-works.ocnk.net/ I got stung with import tax which double the price but still lovely.
Tom, Mark is developing an under engine exhaust system with internal baffling, might be an option for you? Yorkie
I don't know how that would work with a 749 as there isn't a lot of room underneath. Although it would look cool. I also want the bike to be relatively easy to maintain, so putting an exhaust under the sump bolt will mean changing the oil becomes a real pain in the hoop.
I was looking for the right can style for my project but couldn’t fined one so I bought the parts from JP Engineering and made it myself, only cost £100. I know it’s a different engine but I also made a 2 into 1 system for it, it’s only the MK1, MK2 new and improved will follow shortly.
Yes it’s stainless. I put the parts for the can in the vapour blaster because they come polished and I wanted a rawer look. By the way the parts come in 450mm lengths so as long as you bought more end caps you could easily make 2 cans out of it. I could get 3 as it’s so small.
Been photoshopping again... I couldn't figure out whether or not getting the termis off was a good thing or not. I decided that to make the project very different… It was a good idea. I think a stubby carbon can each side will do the business and so I've been looking at the route the header takes from the front cylinder and its quite restrictive. It must come up behind the swing arm and then push out around the tyre. The header for the rear cylinder is a whole different kettle of fish but I'm hoping an exhaust guru can sort out the problems that may come from different length headers. I would like to map each cylinder separately when it comes to dyno time, hence why I want to go for separate headers and cans. So here are the pictures… they are just to present the idea and location so I'm sorry they're scruffy .
how hot will your inner thighs be……. and from the rear how spread will they be…….as it might spoil the narrow shape of the bike?
I like what you're doing with the front of the bike.....but those pipes or that placement dont do it for me, sorry. But it is your bike. What about trumpet style exhausts or the shotgun effort like whats on the 848/1098 streetfighter? Lay them at 45 degrees, try an mimick angular lines of the 749 ?
There's not a lot of freedom with the swing arm and headers. It's either keep the termi's or at least the same under seat exhaust placement or go for something completely different. I want to put the battery and ECU etc in the tail, away from all the crap it gets down the bottom.
