QD Exhaust

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Tripletrouble, Jun 7, 2012.

  1. Being Italian is an excuse, as is being French. Naturally dismissive and rude comes to mind. Alas buying anything from abroad always gives risk if it goes wrong

  2. I should add that Joe @ spareshack has offered help and has been excellent.

  3. No, no excuse, I was simply using a general "broad brush" to highlight cultural differences. Let me start by saying I agree with you 100%. You paid good money for an item, and you have (in your opinion) received and item which is "substandard", coupled with (in your opinion) poor customer service. When I say "in your opinion", I'm not disagreeing with you...

But.... can't you say the same about Ducati? And any number of companies, home AND abroad who are the same? I think you can. I think we all can. That is not to "excuse" it, but to put it into context. Hands up anyone who has NEVER had a problem with a product?

Well, and to flip things round for a different perspective, imagine you are Manuel.... you HAVE tested your product on a Multistrada 1200 WITH a centre stand, and it is fine. No-one else has reported a problem (that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means it hasn't been reported). You come along and say you have a problem (in an email). He gets hundreds of emails every day, and cannot possibly deal with them all individually (assumption, not necessarily true). Get staff in you say... perhaps he cannot afford to. Anyway, not the point... So he thinks, well, one customer has a problem, but it must be a fitment issue, and anyway, the bracket is welded on, I'm in Italy, and the customer is in Wales...I can't physically help anyway... You call, and he....trying to be helpful...explains that is has never been raised as a problem, and suggests that you cut a bit off, or bend it.

To you, it is a red rag to a bull... not helpful at all, and it inflames the situation!

    Just a different view.

Guys.... And Joe I'm including you here, as you must have plenty of customers with the QD fitted... Who on here has the QD exhaust fitted WITH a centre stand?

    Two questions for you:

    1. Do you have a problem with the bracket getting in the way of the centre stand?
    2. If "yes", what did you do to fix the problem?

  4. Oh, and one final point.... and this is what I meant about "being Italian" (for that read "Latin").... you have a product which looks great, sounds great, performs really well.... fantastic. it is 95% perfect.... there are a few glitches, but it is still, none the less, 95% there.... that 5% (or 10, or 15, or 20) doesn't matter because it is almost there.... so to the Italian (or Latin), don't sweat over that last few percent, just enjoy what you have...

And no, I know that doesn't help one bit, but it is worth bearing in mind. ...Say the above to a German, and they would have a heart attack! Cultural differences, see.... ;-)

  5. ....and one wonders why the EU is on the verge of collapse....
Well, here you have it in a nutshell, or should that be in a DB killer.

  6. Well, I'm half Portuguese, half Welsh...born in England....so I have some "inside knowledge". I guess the thing is they celebrate the 95% goodness rather than worrying about the 5% that isn't so good. It's like the 80-20 rule. You've got most of it (80%) so shrug your shoulders and forget the other 20%. Life is too short to worry about such things. Just enjoy the goodness of that 80%. It is frustrating at times, particularly if that 5 or 20% is annoying to you!

  7. Being half Afrikaans and half german with an south African English boarding school education (and no boarding schools are not for the posh in SA) I don't really want to get into this discussion, but just want to let people know that I have posted a mivv decat pipe and a termi stubby in the forums classifieds!

  8. Agreed. The point is, enjoy!

Anyway, I'd still like to hear from QD owners who have the centre stand fitted...and how Tripletrouble gets on with his fix. Mine are supposed to be arriving and being fitted on Wednesday! Fingers crossed.....

  9. Do you have a centrestand David?

  10. Oh yes! ;-)

  11. Excellent. That should be interesting then.

  12. Yes, we will see! I'm sure the exhaust will be fantastic, but the question is how will the bracket/stand be? Well, we will see.... Interested to hear how other people have fared, but at the end of the day I will just have to see how it is for me in reality.

  13. All sorted. 10 minutes bending, trying, bending etc and it's done.
However, if you're the sort of person who pushes the bike off the centrestand and just lets it spring up, be aware that the metal of the bracket is so weak it will get hit back up and the problem will re-occur. You will need to let the stand up gently with your foot on it.
Just need to get a strip of self advesive rubber to stop the two metals damaging themselves now.

  14. There we go, all sorted! I'll have to tell the garage if they encounter a problem! Thanks Tripletrouble... :upyeah:

  15. Jeez guys, for an expensive exhaust they haven't really thought this centre stand bracket through properly now have they....?

I mean firstly it's not exactly lined up, and now you tell me they never drilled a 10-15mm hole in it so you can move your rubber grommet from the original position!

You just don't get the staff anymore these days :))

  16. I reckon if you move your rubber grommit it will make the stand too low and bugger up your ground clearance :p

  17. How many numptys have a centre stand? Maybe the long term solution would be take h bracket once it fits, get sme thicker steel and make a copy which is sturdier

  18. Why are you a numpty if you have a centre stand then Bradders?

  19. Lol

    Numptystrada

  20. I like having a centre stand. Alright it gets in the way a bit when riding in a way guaranteed to annoy her majestys finest boys in blue, but I'd rather have than not.
