Thanks for your erudite and well thought out replies Bradders. It really adds to the forum. Well done you.
QD now fitted guys and been out for a spin today. Negative stuff first. Can't fit the centre stand at all without bringing a grinder into the mix. Joe at spare shack is a really nice guy but is just a distributor and he obviously gets as much out of the manufacturer as we do which is zilch. Nothing coming back from questions regarding problems in fitting which is a bitch considering the price but there you go. That said, I'm really chuffed. They look and sound fantastic, really loud and deep. Just about cover up that awful belt whine from the engine at idle which is a plus. Bonus at the moment is I don't think it will need a remap as it seems to run really well. Even seems smoother around town and I don't think I'm imagining it. Slight popping at times when closing the throttle but in a nice way and not silly explosions like I had with the MIVV. I have left the killers in as it plenty loud enough. Tried it without and it really is an experience to behold but for sale signs on the cul de sac will start being put up. Build quality looks fantastic, again compared to the MIVV which is I suppose is as it should be for the price. i would recommend these the everybody. The sound is awesome guys and completes the bike.
Bob, you (and Boomer) were spot on....wow...the bike is hilarious now....the sound addictive...power wheelies everywhere in the lower gears....must try not to give it full gas everywhere.... I "think" it uses less fuel now too, but it is hard to be sure right now...too much gas see... ;-) Oh, and the centre stand stop doesn't work properly. I've suggested a modification to QD, which they say they will implement, so hopefully any future purchasers will not have the problem. It just needs to be narrower. And if they made it shorter (height), and put a hole in it, you could even use the rubber bung. Sorted. ;-) Apart from the centre stand stop, they are perfect.....very straightforward to fit too.... The "stop" does spoil an otherwise excellent product. I'm in "discussions" with the importer and factory as to the way forward. Probably the simplest solution is for me to cut it with a dremel (or similar) ...erm, except I don't have a dremel, so would have to buy one... ;-) As Ojobear says, they are great. .... I haven't even bothered to take the baffles out yet. Would I recommend them? Yes. BUT.... If you have the centre stand, and want to keep it/don't want to (or can't) cut the "stop", then do check that the modification has been made. Otherwise it is a real pain to use the centre stand.
David/Ojo/Bob; welcome aboard the Quat-D express Ive had mine on since delivery of the PP. 3500kms old now and pipes "burning" in nicely and no DB killers/baffles in and here's an interesting audio observation I have made over that time. When new it didn't seem to make any difference between riding (Sport, Touring, Urban) modes but now the sound difference is marked. Probably too distracted with such a wonderful bike and too much sensory overload to note the following until, or as I know her better. Urban, whilst um tuneful (read loud) is full and purposeful yet a tad softish, after you get used to them (for Quat-D's), Touring is fuller again and a quite a bit sharper-my wife would say LOUD,.....Sport is, er, barking mad. Quat-D barking that is. Ack-Ack gun loud with a Ducati 1198 rpm cyclic. It's a sound to behold. How long we'll get away with this shit? I dunno but I'm gonna make the most of it while I can. Glorious! Oh yeah, they pop and burp occasionally in varying degrees very much according to atmospheric conditions. Quite nicely actually. Pity flames don't belch out in Sport on over-run THAT would be very appropriate! The moral to this story? DB killers out / ear protection in / neighbors moving / laughing like a loon. P.S. Who's going to be the first to capture the true sound of Quat-D's? Kills the mic in cameras. Over to you.
