Due to the fact that there are very few flights, the restrictions on the number of passengers (30%) and my wife’s company’s restrictions on which airlines we can fly with, we now have flights booked for Monday 14th December, which means quarantine for Christmas, we’re fairly chilled about it......at least we’ll be there
Lols! The old 'ten pound poms'! We had loads of friends growing up whos parents and or grandparents were these people... my mum almost was but met and married my dad before then so didn't happen...
My uncle decided to up roots from Wales and settle in NZ after the war He married and they raised four kids. It’s about time I revisited.
Christmas Day is coming early in the Machin household, tomorrow to be exact, I’ve unpacked the decorations for 1 day only as the packers are in next week to ship all our worldly goods off to Aus. We have organic rib of beef on the menu with all the trimmings, we’ve gone all out and bought a massive 3 Rib at a cost of £100 which we will be using to take dinner round to our neighbours and dinner for Claire’s Nan & Gramps on Sunday. With a bit of luck we’ll be out of Quarantine on New Year’s Eve
@Nigel Machin - I’m truly jealous!! If you remember I replied to your first post when you were contemplating whether to emigrate or not? My Daughter has been in Brisbane for the last 9 years and this is the first year we won’t be able to join her for Christmas, I’m taking it badly as I hate the lousy weather here, somehow I can manage heat loads better than being cold, we normally spend December, January and February with her over in Oz, plus we have a new Grandson we haven’t even seen yet...William, born 2nd July this year His older brother Zachary was born almost 3 years ago, 9th December 2017 The Daughter is accusing me of brainwashing them into motorbikes,.....don’t know what she means??? Mate, you will have a fantastic life in Oz, I’m hoping we can get a retirement visa and also move over there, I’m sure you will love Sydney, loads to see, Blue Mountains etc, but quality of life is just streets ahead of what we have here and everyone just seems so upbeat and positive. Best of luck, enjoy your new life down under and don’t forget to check back into the forum and give us a progress update
Thanks @Poucher starting to feel real now, although it looks like there’s industrial action scheduled at Heathrow on the 14th!! They had a bash at disrupting things on Monday this week but there’s so few flights I don’t think it caused too many issues, fingers crossed. Thanks for your kind words and will keep you posted, Nige
Getting real now! Packers finished this morning with the loading of the container. We should get our stuff back in about 8 weeks, but could take longer!!
My Aussie mate has just started his quarantine for his Xmas visit - he's holed up in the Sydney Hilton for 2 weeks 'working from home'. Could be worse...
