Reliability started with Japanese UJM The only really useful gadgets have been the development of abs and traction control the rest is unnecessary complications A well ridden Blackbird or Hyabusa can still compete with most bikes in real world conditions
I’d have to disagree. Cruise control and heated grips are wonderful, experience enhancing things. Fuel injection a great low-maintenance performance tool. IMU that allow abs and tc to be based on not just rotational speed but angle of lean. Electronic suspension that adapts to almost all circumstances and is operable without any tools.
Cruise control don't use it don't trust it Electronic suspension unnecessary Heated grips wonderful not really an electronic gadget ABS and TC are worthwhile Keyless ignition and electronic steering lock unreliable
Akin to those that say sat navs are crap and we should all be using paper maps. Don't get me wrong, paper maps are great, I love them. But they are far less convenient on a wet night when trying to find your hotel in an unfamiliar foreign city. Let alone when following a pre-planned cross country route on lesser roads without having to stop and consult the map several times.
So guy's this thread has been running for over two years, and still none the wiser which is best QS for a 1200DVT. Healtech maybe
The DVT gearbox apparently isn't really suitable for a quick shifter. I was advised against it when I enquired back in 2017 I used the money I saved to go to the Manx
Yes I've also enjoyed the Manx in past years, but I'm more interested in the quickshifter at the moment thank you.
I have exhausted this avenue last year for my 2107 1200s. Even speaking to the guys at the motor show last year they advised against it even though they sold it. Upshift only. They cannot do autoblip downshift. So whats the point in up only when you can do that clutchless anyway.
Not convinced by that! Ducati specialists are littered with bits of 1*98 gearboxes after a QS has been fitted.
I honestly never heard of such a claim. A basic quickshifter works by killing of the ignition/fuel for a certain period of time in order to relieve stress on the gear box, thus allowing the pressure on the gear lever / selector drum to slip the transmission into the next gear without grinding or chipping gear teeth / dogs. Consequently, using a quickshifter can be less harmful for the gearbox than slow-shifting since the engine power is guaranteed to be lowered when the fuel/ignition are cut. Whereas an unskilled rider manually operating the clutch is more likely to make the mistake of leaving the throttle open during up-shifting.
That’s only because you have the throttle I open tho. It cuts like you have shut the throttle: if you just close it, its the same, just not as quick/efficient Ducati gearboxes (may be other than Panigale) have very ‘wide’ gearboxes and lots of torque and dont like QS. The Multi is based on the 1198 (not sure if gearbox changed on DVT onwards tbh) which any (most who use them) SP or R owner will telling you loves a gearbox rebuild...!! If getting an engine refresh, and using QS, No1 recommendation will be from most builders toI have the cogs mirror finished to reduce the risk of it eating itself
You can’t do a stand alone QS but the Rapidbike Evo add on QS has auto blip on down change as well as up shift All adjustable for kill times etc Problem is it’s a few quid by the time you’ve bought it all Riding it.... at lower RPM.... can be a tad harsh at mid to high RPM it’s as smooth as butter, much smoother than normal clutchless changes
I also suggested the Rapidbike EVO / QS combination in post #57 with a link to their website. Notwithstanding the QS, there's a huge benefit to having the Rapidebike fuel controller on the Multistrada 1200 as it will eliminate that big dip in the torque curve. I personally think that this in itself is even more important. I installed one on my Panigale where the improvement was impressive. It will improve the Multistrada even more. In fact, I still have the unit which I may use on another bike if need be.
Does anyone know if the Quick Shifter of the multistrada 1260 SKU: 96580161A can be installed at the Multistrada 1200s DVT 2016
I was going to use the Cordona with my Tuneboy software, but after much deliberation decided that I will not as the gearbox is not designed for it and I don't want to destroy it, so it's a no from me. Too many people who have had problems.
