Playing the 'if I had my time over again' card is largely pretty pointless but hearing protection would definitely be moved higher up the priority list.
We all have regrets in life, but to wish somebody ill just because they don't share the same opinion as you is plain nasty. My hearing almost certainly isn't as good as it used to be, but then working on building sites, in nightclubs, and near heavy plant all affect it just as much as riding a bike without earplugs. I still say it's somewhat irresponsible of manufacturers to sell helmets that don't provide at least a modicum of ear protection. My Arai seems to amplify the noise if anything, which is why I don't wear it.
I have been given one of these for christmas, not had a chance to use it yet but hopefully tomorrow. It certainly is very light and seems beautifully made. All the reviews online are excellent , I`ll post again once I`ve tried it.
I love a good blast with the right music, I wear a decent pair of in ear headphones that work like earplugs and have the music at a volume which still lets me have a conversation with someone when I'm stopped. The right music can make a good ride or drive great!
I bought one of these Reevu RV FSX1 & RV MSX1 rear view Helmets from £249 delivered so now I can see where I`ve been .
I have been using a Reevu the last 18 months. they are quiet and pretty draught free but very heavy which is why I am changing so soon. PM me if you are interested in giving it a try.
After years with so many different types of helmets my current all time favourite for silence, weight and ventilation has to be my Shoei XR1100.My wife has one too and also agrees. Just for a change I may wear one of my AGV's ....bloomin bricks with force gale wind noise but I like the style plenty of neck exercise and ear plugs help
I am currently using a Shoei XR1100 too, agree with your remarks on ventilation but could do with it being quieter at speed. Do you have the "whisper kit" accessory fitted to yours?
I have tinnitus because I rode without earplugs for too long. But I've found something that gives long periods of respite. Try this from a book called Secrets of Longevity by Doctor Maoshing Ni. It works for me and I hope it works for you. 1. Cup your hands tightly over your ears sealing them closed with both hands (middle fingers of both hands pointing at each other behind head). 2. Tap left and right sides of back of head at same time like drumming a drum while keeping hands cupped tightly over ears. 3. Do this for 500 times several times per day. (takes about 5-10 minutes each session) 4. Then find the little sore spot (acupressure point behind each ear and press it 9 times) Good luck!
