V4 Quietest Bike I’ve Ever Had

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Oly, Oct 14, 2022.

  1. It’s an offence under the Road Traffic Act to alter emissions settings from the standard used when the vehicle is sold new.

  2. Personally I wouldn't do the Gundo hack. The previous owner of our 911/997 had it does and I find it rather offensive. At least with the OEM sports exhaust you have the option to be loud or quiet... Wonder if it's reversible???

  3. Porsche sports exhaust, I can never tell the difference on my 991.2...... sounds exactly the same  but still like it :upyeah:

  4. Strange. I know it a different vehicle, but there is a switchable exhaust on our X3M Competition - you can certainly tell when it's in Sport mode...

  6. Exactly. I ran a 1098R with a 70mm Termignoni system for track days. It only just used to pass a 105db static noise test. So too did all the Jap IL4’s. But full chat down the start/finish straight the 1098R sounded lovely. The Jap IL4’s sounded fucking obnoxious. Particularly annoying when you’re trying to chat to someone in pit lane. Very rude those Jap things… Except the R1 cross plane crankers. I’d allow them…

  7. Must be fucked then. It’s just an actuator driven flap. The sound difference is quite stark.

  8. Agree. All the Gundo hack does, as I understand it, is to weld a pipe in the position Porsche put the valve. Cheap(er) but loud.

  10. I’d agree that there is a place for loud exhausts on race bikes but not on the road.

And I don’t feel the concept about ‘loud pipes save lives’ is really relevant with most pedestrians wearing headphones and cars with air con and the windows wound up tight?

  11. If loud pipes save lives the next time some idiot comes past in a car with the exhaust popping and banging making an absolute racket, think “excellent, that’ll save someone’s life” .
And it won’t be many years before all new bikes and cars won’t have exhausts.

LOUD PIPES ON THE ROAD ARE FOR FUN, it’s impossible to use any power release from them legally. Yes my 1260 PP was loud, really loud but my reason for having it was ….. l liked it. :D
My V4s is very quiet, just a lovely place to be.
ps. My car will hit 70 (you know, the legal national speed limit) faster than nearly any bike, and it’s almost silent! :no_mouth:

  12. There’s a fine distinction between a nice sounding exhaust and making yourself look like a total pillock.

Race bikes are meant to be offensively loud and I love being at the track to hear them.

But on the road If I’m in a town or city and hear a stupidly loud exhaust then it’s usually associated with some boy racer bell-end. I was riding home through a city on Sat night and came across a couple of said bellends - bikes making loads of noise but without the acceleration to match. Jeans, trainers and the usual fabric bomber style jacket puffed out with the wind.

People don’t look around at the sound of an offensively loud exhaust and think ‘wow what a hero’ - they think ‘what a prat’

I love a nice engine note and the popping and banging my Triumph makes on the overrun coming up to roundabouts. But the standard exhaust is easily loud enough for road use.

You have to ask yourself which group of people you want to associate yourself with - muppets on rat bikes wearing street clothes riding around town on a Sat night because they haven’t got a girlfriend - or people with a large enough penis that they don’t need to compensate with a loud exhaust

  14. To clarify, you mean it's an offence to fit an aftermarket exhaust with the relevant numbers stamped on stating it is for road use?

  15. I take it all back. One of these just came up on Ebay for my Triumph!

Look at that beauty - it’s like the channel tunnel!

Screw the legal issues - i’m going to be setting off car alarms wherever I go :joy:

  16. Here’s the thing, I’m 53, married with two kids, chocolate Labrador and occupy a position in middle management.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good life, but no one’s going to be writing my biography any time soon.

So once a week, I pour myself into my leathers, don my lid and fire the bike up. From that point, right up until I return home, everything else disappears.

And I want that experience to come with a soundtrack. It’s one of the reasons I bought a Ducati in the first place and why every one of them has had a race exhaust.

    I make no apologies.

  17. this has been very interesting and all, but all i asked was , is there an aftermarket exhaust that will make my ducati sound like a ducati. I dont want it loud or obnoxious. just want to ne able to hear a nice rumble, a bit like my streetfighter standard exhaust.
    anyone?

  18. Then just get an end can? I think that's clearly been answered throughout this thread.

Full can = Too loud and meant for racing
End can = Adds a bit of flavour without touching anything else other than noise

    Cools?
