I have no issues with folks shifting weight and getting the old kneecap down when appropriate, but last Sunday I was following a guy up the A6 north of Derby, you know the bit that's all 40 and 50 limits. He was on some sort of garish Japasuzondahsaki sports bike and he kept hanging his arse off the side of the bike on every bend we came to. We were doing 45mph FFS - my bike was nearly vertical. Some folks........
I hang off a little bit, but only far enough to scrap puck on the tarmac when Im at the track. Im never going fast enough in the twisties to warrant even trying
i did my 1st kneedown about 15 yrs ago after clocking up 189,000 miles going round the same roundabout....since then ive been trying to improve me technique so that i can do it gratuitously....sadly i cant..im out of practice..at the moment. about 5 yrs ago i used to do it on every ride, and i remember a particular hook turn corner near a place called Edenham where i could absolutely nail it knee down...i went for a little pootle when i got me 916 back on the road recently (only been out on her twice since March) and went to this exact same corner...i thought 'WTF was i doing'???? i trundled around it like driving Miss Daisy...funny how you go backwards when you dont ride...At the time it didnt seem that much of a big deal...if i saw myself doing it now, id think Troy was on board.... be careful and pick your moments on the queens highway...weve all had our brown leathers moments, but for sheer exhilaration, not much tops that feeling!
extra kudos for left knee down....i prefer rights...a left down on the public roads is very naughty...
I much preferred right handers for years and years, and then I spent about 3 weekends at Ledenon in France which turns anti clockwise. Consequently, there are a lot of left handers. I got so used to getting my knee down there that I think I almost prefer left-handers now.
As most circuit go clockwise, right handers far outweigh left handers. One of the reasons to go to Rockingham thou, massive left hander in the infield section. Its nice to have matching scruffed pucks thou
right's seem a bit of an issue for me I find it much easier to hang of the left of the bike, extra odd seeing as I am right footed aswell you'd think right knee down would be easyier.
I wasn't hurt showing off, I was hurt going home from the office on a Wednesday evening..... I'm not going to be taking any chances when I get back on my bike next year, I'm just too fragile in the lower body now.
I'd like to take the credit for backing it into corners but, unfortunantly the only times I have done it has been fluke and readily met with a good case of brown mist
Still a knee down virgin, even when I binned the last bike pretty much everything except the knees made contact with tarmac....I do tend to shuffle around on the bike a little these days though, just found a little shuffle over tends to make the bike feel much more stable through corners. Or is that all in my head?
