Chris, I have a 900 SS/IE engine for sale if you're interested ? It was part of a rebuild I was doing that got shelved. It's ready to bolt in and is all refurbished, pm me if you're interested and I can send you some pics. Ian.
Hi all, Got the s4r forks installed in the st2 frame today. Then slotted the st2 forks in to the s4r so i can still move it around. Hoping to get the s4r swingarm in to the st2 frame within the next week. More pics and updates to come this week.
howdy all, Finally got the swingarm ready to go in. Picking up a 900ssie engine next week with loom and airbox etc Anyone know if the s4r swingarm pivot will slot in to the 900ss engine? Cheers
Evening all, Thought i'd better take refuge from the rain in the shed and get cracking with the build. Got the rebuilt 900ss ie engine in to the frame using the wooden stand the guy I bought the engine from built. Genius bit of kit! Swingarm drops in lovely, rear suspension bolted up nicely. Still waiting for newly ordered swingarm pivot if you're wondering why there is a steel punch running through! I'm having problems mating the 900ss throttle bodies to the inlet tubes. Anyone know if this is a known issue and what needs to be done to get it to fit???
You get one in and when you try the other the first one pops out? They're a bugger aren't they!? Nice to see some progress, keep it coming. Darren
Yeah the worst thing is i don't even know which way round the throttle bodies go! This pic shows them lined up with the throttle cable mech on the left hand side of the bike (if you're sitting on it) but the arm that holds the mech fouls the frame and they don't sit on the rubber mounts. If you spin them round the cylinder on the fuel system fouls the centre frame rail and again they don't fit. I'm assuming that the clean side of the butterfly is piston side and the dirty side is airbox side? Anyone offer any help? I bought these in bits so I didn't take them apart! Cheers
The throttle bodies fit with the cable linkage on the right hand side Chris, this is how it was on the SS/IE. As for the cross member on the frame I'm assuming the SS frame is different to the one you're using. You might have to cut out the cross member and re-weld it so it runs from top left to bottom right if that makes sense ? Pretty sure a few people on here have over come this issue before, projects looking good though
Have also noticed the cross member on the SS/IE frame I had was a lot thinner than the one on your ST. The one you have looks to be the same diameter as the main frame tubes ??? could be why the throttle bodies aren't fitting... You should be able to sort it
I don't know for certain but I'm 90% sure the 900SSie and ST2 TBs are the same, so they should fit (I once fitted 900SSie TBs on an ST2 motor). If that's the case there should be no need to mod the frame. If the SSie TBs absolutely won't fit then rather than start cutting why not chase down some ST2 TBs and intakes? Darren
nice one Darren, i do have the ST2 TBs and intakes from the original bike so i'll try fitting them tonight. I was worried that the TB's were different and that may updet the fuelling etc but sounds like they might be the same anyway.
been a while since i last posted and lots has happened, the build id really starting to take shape now, here's some pics of whats happening at the moment. i removed the paint on the tank with the trusty grinder and bought a stainless quick filler cap. just need to remove that final strip of black around the lip and tidy up a few other area's. Need to lacquer it before it starts to rust though!
took a lot of boxes down to Mark at MADASL a while back and have spent the last 2 weekends down there, here is the mock up before the frame was cut down
