RAD Style project - donor bike advice needed!

  1. started making some decisions on housing the electrics now with Marks help, he has tacked on some brackets to mount the coils and ecu. I'm hoping by using a tiny battery tucked up under the tank i can hide a lot of the wiring without having to mod the loom too much. Although i'll probably end lopping a bit of it off. There's a surprising amount of room under the tank when you go for this layout. This pic is just a mock up but gives an idea of coil location, i didn't mind making a feature of them so you can see them from the top and side views when the tank is on.

  2. Looking good mate :upyeah:

  3. cheers Rich and thanks for your advice on the forks the other day. Decided to stick with these ones for now, its a big investment to get the an updated front end. Thought i would get it on the road as is and see how she looks and handles then go from there.

  4. This is looking very, very nice.

Im not sure what you are thinking in the way of finish but the tank looks amazing.

What about a coloured lacquer over the brushed alu to make it look like brushed bronze to set off the engine cases.

    Either way, I like it.

  5. Cheers, the finish on the tank will be lacquered as is, frame and engine colours will be changed too. Just finishing all the fabrication work before i start spraying bits. Thinking matt black for the frame, so i'll spray it with a rattle can to see how she looks and then get it powder coated properly.

  6. If you do the frame Matte black are you planning on doing the swingarm to match? Should look rather nice indeed.

  7. not sure yet mate, i always had an idea of the shape and style of the bike but can never quite settle on the colour scheme! its defo going to be understated and im pretty sure the frame colour should match the swinger but like i said, i'm not 100% yet! i'll put up some pics once i've sprayed it...

  8. love the headlight on this bike, you can buy the kit for £240 from their website, has anyone done something similar to this themselves? the main difficulty seems to be finding a headlight unit that is shallow enough, the mounting plate doesn't worry me. any ideas anyone? wondering if i can buy a headlight lens, bulb and reflector that is shallow and then make it waterproof by fabricating something behind the mounting plate. or just buy a normal headlight assembly and butcher the rear of it and again hide it behind the mounting plate?

  9. Who are they?

  10. How big do you want the headlamp? I saw a nice projector unit mounted behind a racing number board, with a clear perspex covered hole in it, very neat

  11. Sorry forgot to attach any details! They're called JVB Moto, here's the link JvB-MOTO - Real Rock`n`Roll bikes!

Check out the Ducatis they have done, some really nice bikes...

  12. Hi, size is undecided at the moment, i think either 5 or 7 inches. I do like number boards with projectors but I think those projector lights can look a bit lost in that size of space. Been looking through some old streetfighter mags and it looks like they used to use rally car fog lights to get the narrow headlight case and then put a main/dip/side assembly in it, bit like this...

  13. Size isn't important - it's where you mount it that counts. I hope

  14. yup, don't worry its not at the rear

  15. Howdy all,

Started cleaning up the fork bottoms today, used some brass wire drill bits and was well pleased with the results. They were heavily pitted and I hadn't really had any joy using a wire brush and brake cleaner and would recommend using these drill bits. Check out the pics for before and after. 16. got the calipers cleaned up at last, was going to just give them a good clean but 25,000 miles and no cleaning meant the grime just wouldn't come off. needless to say i stripped the paint off them and now i think i might just keep them with this finish. anyone know if i need to lacquer them or not? 17. Got the brake discs sprayed up and ready to re-mount. I wanted the black centres but new they were something like £200 each. Think these came up ok...
