Just emailed Yann to express my unhappiness, having checked it out in more detail, there are areas of pure resin with no fibre, not only is it not symmetrical in plan view but it is also longer on the left than the right. It also has warped on the left hand side, there are several cuts along the line, of the base and areas were it has not been finished/released properly, as well as needing re-inforcing. All in all not v happy considering it cost £150. When I compare it to the fairing from ricambi Weiss its a different world, would deffo recommend them. Difference between the French and the Germans
Yanns response; "I am sorry that the car seat does not suit you . Always make adaptation work , sanding, putty replacement fiberglass before painting is the work of a good painter bodybuilder motorcycle. To obtain the final result on Radical prototypes , these are hours ... I get exactly the same hardware as you ... The documents produced by Radical Ducati are originally designed for the preparation of prototype circuit . The workhorse of Pepo Rosell is weight gain , and after the aesthetics ... He was a victim of its success ... For the price, I did not increase the rate of Radical parts resuming the activity, and for parts perfectly symmetrical , it would take double , triple see ! You information on the price of the original parts in fiberglass for motorcycles ... I try to improve the performance , but this type of claim , I can not do anything except get you to take part ... Keeps me informed , greetings desmodromic ." So basically because it's hand made is the reason it's not symmetrical if I wanted that it would cost me 3x and anyway a good builder spends time re-finishing every part he buys Well he is at least honest
So he's saying they couldn't be arsed to build a decent mould as the punter can spend more money with his painter/body shop sorting out the faults?
that is disgusting...i have had stuff from Ricambi nice quality stuff,Tyga are also very good quality,Nick is spot on with the mold,if he isnt compitent to make the mold and lay the parts up then maybe he should get a pro to make them...shit.
Cheers guys started to doubt myself thinking I was moaning and being hyper critical. Nick what is the standard on pepo's seat that he supplied to you?
My seat is fine, thin but plenty strong enough for me and how I've fixed it to my subframe. No quality issues with it, I wish the tank was the same!
I have to say the seat unit I from from Pepo was great quality, decent even layers of fibreglass, kevlar reinforced mounting point, the gel coat was a little thin in one point but the shape is nice and even. Its a shame Rad france can't match that as imo the montjuich seat is the best looking one on the market.
Just joined the forum and have been reading this thread after going through the original "Radical Ducati" thread. I make patterns for the composites industry as part of my business (mostly CNC) and have to say that Radical seem to have either made very cheap and nasty moulds from their original patterns, or the patterns themselves have been poorly made. Probably shaped by hand / eye judging by the reported differences between LH-RH on the seat. One member mentions Vinylester resins and these are easily available but are advertised as "tooling resins" due to having higher heat resistance than standard polyester. Polyester and Vinylester resins are not as good "glues" as Epoxy so not sure about adhesion especially in the presence of fuel? You will need good prep and to remove any areas of GRP already effected by fuel. Lastly, fuel tanks are normally made in two pieces and then joined / dressed. Is it the seam that is leaking? If it were me, I would suggest using the tank you bought as a pattern. Cut and shut / fill it to correct the fit issues and make a new mould from it. Then make another complete tank to the quality you are happy with. Could you sell a few tanks to members of this forum to pay for it??? Another suggestion is to look at fitting it with a motorsport type bladder. This fits inside the tank and retains the fuel in case of an "off" that damages the tank. or to make a GRP "cover" from the Radical tank that sits over an alternative steel / aluminium tank as was done by Bimota for the DB1 sold into the UK market where composites tanks were not allowed at the time...
