  4. Assume that's overseas? Would attract import duty now? Any UK resellers does anyone know?

  7. I agree that Early Monster footpeg mounts are not only huge and a little ugly, and a nicer set could really help clean up the lines of the bike, but I've never seen a solution to then supporting the Exhausts that I'd be happy with both mechanically and cosmetically.
    All I've seen are mechanically pathetic or just plain ugly.
    Admittedly very High level exhausts can be supported from the frame and achieve both, but I can't stand the very high level exhausts in the first place, in my opinion they just don't suit the classic look of an early Monster and ruin the lines.

    For mid and low level cans, hanging a strap down from the frame not only looks shite as the angle fights all the other lines on the bike, but they are so long there is no way to build in side to side mechanical support so the cans can slump inwards.
    So many sets of Monster cans are marked up the inside by being rubbed by the rear spindle and swingarm etc even with the original footpeg supports that putting something even less able to support the exhausts on the bike can't be a good idea.

    The only other option is to then extend back from the rider footpegs like the originals, which defeats the object.
     
  8. the &$@* links for the exhaust are something that the 851/888 have always had though? although far from a good solution "it is what it is" and respect your opinion on how various exhausts look but, no offence to Kev Moose, almost anything is better than the above for me.

    early Monster exhaust location was always poor, particularly after the lightest drop, and I could forgive people for fitting an aftermarket "dowel" bolt through each silencer mouth as very little stopping them from rotating as standard.

  9. Chris, don't get me wrong, I think high level exhausts work well on the 851/888, and so does the high level exhaust hanger.
    I mean, just look at that image of Brigland's, it's gorgeous.
    But a Monster is a different style all together and it's just my opinion etc etc:)

    Sorry, I don't know which bike you're referring to with the Kev Moose comment, and don't actually know who he is.

  16. Just under £2K was an awful lot of cash back in 1975.
    In early '79 I bought my (and still own it) new 900SS for £2,460 on the road IIRC?
    But at the same time you could buy a CB900FZ Honda for around £1,600.

    The price went up to £2700 a year later when I bought mine. Which was more than my yearly wage at the time..
