Not dissimilar to my best mate's car. The Hardy Special c1928. Methanol breathing supercharged JAP v twin. He rides a 996.
there seems to be a whole new load of motorsport pictures released free to the public recently, just like the good old internet days
That's the picture I remember, late 80's/early 90's coppice corner if. I remember correctly, Jesus That's just took me back 30 odd years!
you got me researching after you mentioned the date - this is Dick Hardy's Mk II isn't it? absolutely priceless for me, but was built in 1955 although nearly all the "bits" are said to be pre-1931 (as you said). Your best friend having a 996 was meant to be, as apparently that special had a 996 twin at some point - maybe still has? The special I posted was built by the man sitting in the car, with the help of his brother in 1949 in Australia. This is their 4th car:-
@Chris, yes, I think that you're correct that it's the MkII. My mate's dad competed in Hillclimb events with it for years. he's still around but after a big crash at Shelsley Walsh a few years ago gave up competing. He was ejected from the car but only sustained a broken leg. Being a retired GP he walked around on it for a week before giving in to to his wife and went to hospital... He still does trials and tours Europe in his Frazer Nash. He told my mate that if he took over the car and beat his impressive class record times he could have the car. Only took my mate a couple of years However, there were a few incidents along the way...
that is impressively tough stuff - putting an arm out to prevent a full inversion!! intuitive, to catch it on the balance point, as could easily have broken an arm.
Foolish, yet successful, attempt to save the aluminium bodywork. Thankfully he wasn't hurt. Here's another trying too hard picture.
