What's the alloy box, with what looks like oil lines attached, bolted to the sprocket cover on the GSXr?
It’s an oil catch tank. When you remove the air box and use cone filters or pods that attach to the trumpets, you need somewhere for the breather pipe and the oil mist that it carries, to go. Or, you just do what some people, including me, do, and pop a mini cone filter over the spigot. My track bike is based on a Bandit 1200, so the engine is more or less the same.
Aha! a little ostentatious compared to the plastic pipes & cut down beer can I'm used to seeing. Looks to be a Yoshi part so probably has some fancy enginnered reed valve type shenanigans in it. Same as your self I just went for the mini cone option.
...and a few more photos from yesterday at Oulton. I definitely need to get shopping for a pre-2000 sports bike and join in the action!
Is it just me being an old fart and reminiscing with rose tinted glasses or do these pre 21st century bikes seem to have (even in the pictures) a lot more, I dunno, soul & spirit about them?
Maybe it’s because you can tell them apart, rather than your eyes getting out of breath looking for clues as to the manufacturer..
More soul & spirit? Absolutely! And when those two-strokes fired up in the pits, WOW, it was like some sort of a calling. The sound was amazing and the smell of Silkolene... heavenly! Sights, sound, smell, all captivating! It's certainly got me motivated, I'm now planning on getting my Aprilia RS250 into shape for a few track sessions next year.
