Rape of the English Language

  1. No-one taught me the basics of sex at school but I figured it out pretty quickly. Same with punctuation. I figured it out as I read books and studied as I went on. Oh and fractions. I was never taught fractions but figured that out too. Plus I never did Physics at school. I'm a Mechanical Engineer. Go figure.

  2. Boots, two things... Firstly I suspect (although I may be wrong on this) that you actually enjoy learning things and have an inquisitive mind; you have enough self-motivation to be able to learn things for yourself, many people do not. And secondly, I also suspect that you are being deliberately argumentative for your own ammusement...

  3. ipso facto, weve ended up where we are now....ive met enough teachers to know that half of them cant string a decent sentence together...
i was chatting to school teacher a couple of days ago about the clocks changing for winter, and i mentioned the Greenwich Meridian..she didnt know what the hell i was talking about...so i mentioned the 'you know, lines of longitude...blah blah....British Summer Time...international time zones blah blah..'
she just stared back at me and said, 'well im not from London so im obviously not going to have heard of it'...WTF???
So i mentioned the Royal Observatory and a bloke called Isaac Newton..She's heard of Isaac Newton thank fukk but everything else was met with a blank face...
Im not African but ive heard of the Pyramids...u know wot i mean??
This is a fully qualified school teacher....i was disgusted..she hadnt even heard of British Summer Time and she thought that i was being an intellectual snob...i was about 20 minutes away from getting into her pants, but you know what? I found that a right turn off...so i had a tug thinking of isaac newton.

  5. when youve got half an hour have a go at the meaning of life, the universe and everything....and for the remaining 25 minutes, have a pop at figuring out, how to remove your cranium from your rectum.

  6. What an awesome, iconic and unique post, worthy of celebrity status!...:upyeah:

  7. bovvered !!

  8. Flamsteed was the 'official' royal astronomer but was not responsible for the meridian line. Many of the buildings are named after both men, but the Royal Observatory telescope is named after Newton..ergo :the point i made to the daft bint...
Do you think that she might have heard of Flamsteed?? I thought that she may have heard of his successor, Halley but i wasnt sure..
i certainly wasnt going to throw in a Herschel gambit!

  9. I don't quite understand...could you explain with more granularity.

  10. You missed Liebnitz whom should be revered alongside Newton and Laplace. I suspect your teacher was a PE teacher. They're always a bit dim in my experience. Apologies if you are a PE teacher but I am sure you too would admit you are dim. If you could read this that is.

  18. Go ahead, be as pedantic as you please with spelling, punctuation, comparatives and superlatives, demotic expressions, etc etc - in your own posts. Once you start pedantically criticising other peoples' writings, not for their substance but for their minutiae, that means you've lost it.
