  1. Yes, pretty much. One of the major brewers abroad is run like this - I think it's Carlsberg.

  2.
  3. I believe this to be the case yet the last time I looked at the leaflet on where my council tax is spent pensions were not mentioned. Where do they hide it ?

  4.
  5. I don't think I like the idea of working where you work, Archer mate :frown:

Mind you, it does explains why the BT engineers whom I deal with in my work seem like zombies.

  6. There are times I wish I was 10 years older and getting ready to retire! I know we have to move with the times, but when you see reports in the papers about John Lewis group employees getting a good bonus, and being happy to work for the company, it makes you realise just how bad BT has become, but after 32 years, I can't afford to risk my pension now :-(

  7. Yeah, but John Lewis is one of those rare companies where everyone is a partner, a bit like a law firm.

I think that's a really good paradigm, personally. You're working for your colleagues and you, rather than some nameless "investors".

  8. i think the average bonus for John Lewis group employess (waitrose etc) was something like 17% of salary..now thats how a company should be run..people feel valued and that they have a stake in the success of the business..the made a contribution that was recognised.
Generally, companies pay as little as possible to prevent staff from leaving and increase profits, staff do as little work as possible to not get sacked.

  9. Yes and the bonus does not go to just a few people at the top of John Lewis but to the whole body of staff (84,000 of them). Motivated? They must all be positively galvanised.
