1199 Ready For Almeria

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Niven770, Jan 12, 2015.

  1. Cracking bike, glad to know about the tyre issues as I am off to Jerez, will stick with pirelli or metzeler ( glad the issue didn't turn nasty for you) also prompts me to take a second set with me for the three days.

    Cheers

  2. Wow, very interesting post thanks. I'm assuming the tyres are KR106 and 108's?? I'm running those and they aint cheap!
146.4... Outstanding effort, well done! Particularly beating your S1000RR time. I didn't think you'd manage that. You'd certainly smoke me!! I'll be happy to crack 1.50 in May.
Did Martin go on his SL? Please tell be he didn't bin it.... Yikes!

  4. Thanks :)
    Tyres were 106/108
Martin was there and he did bin it, not too bad though he just needs to re-paint one side of the fairing and replace a crash bung as well as have his leathers sorted.
He managed a 1.43.xx.....he was flying

  5. shows how good a s1000rr is more or less same time , but half the value.

  6. nice times, my mate Matt was there and got a second spot trophy.

  7. WP_20150127_010.jpg Some guys were extremely quick, there were a few racers there practicing.
Grats to your m8 :) it was a tough school.
Was he in the 750 class ?

  8. On his race r6, next outing is Aragon and Valencia double header. With me in tow. I must do Almeria soon too . Looks fun

  9. R6's were topping the time sheets for a fair bit...
Enjoy Aragon & Valencia, I never done them but yep Almeria is great. I'll hopefully be out again at the end of the year.

  10. Just seen matt Collins accredited with a 1.50.

  11. Ahem, those are big boys times.... And who's that Sergij bloke? Kin'ell, you need to slip some laxative in his brew. That'll slow the fecker down.
So Martin scratched a fairing? I'm sure 25k should sort it.... I remember Warburton on a 1098R missile last year. Very quick guy.

  12. Was it this person? an 888 but with a Testastretta motor fitted. This photo was from a previous time at Almeria.

  13. Google Sergy and you will see who he is (you will be surprised):), He runs in German Superbikes, full pit crew, BMW sponsor etc....nice guy though.

  14. bollox forgot to come find you to say hi, so sorry, i was on the 1098 in crafars garage

yep qualifying times past the 3rd row were v close indeed. if they had used the previous days time for quali as they told us then i would have been 3 rows up the grid! managed a 1.50 in the race which I'm very happy with.
yes sergey was unstoppable doing 1.41's from day 1 on his beemer 1000rr

it was indeed a crashfest during the normal track time (race was crash free afaik), I didn't see any shocking riding myself and tbh there was plenty space even on the first 2 days when the erratic spanish on maxi scooters were there.

think tyre damage and excessive crashes were largely due to very cold track temp more than anything imho, most riders went with the usual compounds that work well in 20+ degrees (2 or 3 front, 5 rear in the dunlop KR slicks) then couldn't keep them hot enough work properly which resulted in them letting go/ tearing
I destroyed an Pirelli SC1 front in 2 days pushing it too hard into the right handers

also almeria does not have loads of marshals so if a bike goes down its usually a red flag, some other tracks will try and keep the session going under yellows and have enough staff to haul the bikes out of the gravel quickly

is that aussie pilot matt on the R6? him and John m on the kwacker zx6 had an epic battle in the race, Jon was wringing the neck of that kwacker doing 1.46s and matt was not far behind

  15. if you kept the tyres then send it back to dunlop, they are obliged to investigate

i also heard from a fairly reliable source that the dunlops can crack if they get very cold/rigid and then are dropped or squished

i watched the tyre guy at the event having a nightmare fitting the tyres in the mornings as they were so stiff form the cold

  16. Tyres will be going back. They were French and I believe they are reliably faulty. Production issues during mid 2014.
Bloody dangerous to say the least.

  17. Aye, that's Matt, or Skippy to others. He's a good bloke

  18. S1000rr wasn't standard and I had been riding it on track for 2yrs, 1st real session on fairly standard R. It had a few bits on it so not quite half the value but I understand and agree with what you are saying.
