Quick note it has to be a camera with mirror mode. The one I posted does not seem to mention that. If you do not have it your left will be right. Also the one I posted has crappy spec. Will look for spec of my one but main thing to look for: Prefferably 480 lines or bit more but not much more or you will need hi res screen Lens Angle minimum 120 degrees, 90 is no good and over 120 makes the picture look odd. Mini-lumination: that is important as in essence it states how sensitive is the sensor to light. I will try and find receipt for my one.
Re PVR make sure it is hidden well. Re one camera V 2 cameras. A wide angle lens in camera is the key. As posted a second ago 120 degree is the norm for car parking cameras but I did see 180. Thing is 180 picture looks odd, like through a bubble so might not be that good on small screen.
My camera spec which I researched a lot. You want good enough LUX for it to work in the evening before night vision kicks in but also not to good to be overwhelmed by lights or be blury from light movement. I had to settle for 420 lines but good enough PAL resolution so I got a PAL LCD screen. There are 9 infrared LED'S night vision* Connected with your in-Car DVD Player or Rear View Mirror or GPS * Waterproof, can work in inclement weather * Image device:1/4-inch color CMOS OV7950 * TV system: NTSC / PAL * Effective pixels: PAL: 628 x 586 pixels NTSC: 510 x 496pixels * Sensing area: 5.87mm x 4.19mm* Sync. System: internal* Resolution: 420 TV lines * Minimum illumination: 3Lux/F1.2* Lens: 3.6mm * Lens angle: 135°~170° * Electronic shutter: 1/60-1/15,000 seconds* Video output: RCA connector, 1.0vp-p, 75ohm * Current consumption: 90ma * Power supply: 12V DC * Size: 28mm (Diameter) x 42mm (height) * Color: Black * Weight: 70g
Wireless Colour Reversing Camera with 3.5 Inch Display and Night Vision : Cameras : Maplin Electronics
I could take some tomorrow bot you would not like them everything is cabletied for now. The Maplin camera is no good, it only has 90 degree view angle so you would need 2. On 749 a 120 degree one should work well, you could mount it under the can so it would not be disturbed on sides like my one is a bit. At the same time as it is quite far back if any part of front of car is missing it is to close to change lanes.
Carbon, well anyone. I want to get back to subject of PVR and police. If you are going to be stopped for speeding then without your PVR they already have enough on you to prosecute. I mean all they need is two of them agree and put in statement that you were naughty. If they just do a random stop and have no reason to believe you were stupid they can not demand from you the footage, can ask but not demand. That is a sort of question ok.
just got mine on ebay two cameras and two monitors going to go for the twin set up each side of the speedo , total cost £50 for both
That's the way I was looking to do it, until reading Lucas's idea of 1 camera at the back. Where are you mounting the camera's? I was thinking one on each side of the rear subframe. Let us know how you get on, plus a few pic's would be good.
I tried these a couple of years ago . They might be ok as a reversing camera but are crap as a rear view mirror . You can see something ,quite clearly , 3 meters away but trying to look any further is not good at all . My camera and colour screen were over £100 and as easily the worst £100 i have ever spent.
I wouldn't recommend wireless on anything permanently installed to a vehicle, especially to a Ducati - there'll be too much interference.
You know I never had that idea pop to my head but with 2.4 rating I am almost certain that at low level/medium to high vibration it would interfere.
Do you know camera spec? First if it is 90 degrees camera (most likely) have it a bit deeper in to bike. Not maximum end of subframe. Also a bit pointing outwards. Take something with 90 degree angle and check how much your camera sees you will then work out best possible options. Carbon I think you could also do a cool dual setup in small package. Get two 4" screens, take them apart, trim as much from circuit board as you can. Make them even overlap a bit if needed, assuming you can balance the height with LCD screen as it is attached via data ribbon. If you overlap do put runner between them. Then get someone to machine you a case for two screens very close to each other one next to another. Kind off wide dual screen setup. I did not go for two cameras as monster is naked so cleanness of lines is important. It is all about testing, you can always go back. Ready made setups are meant for reversing camera only but if you investigate you will do better for less.
Ok got some pictures but do not think they will be useful for 749 owner. This picture shows location of where camera will probably end up mounted, maybe a bit more forward like a 1cm but maybe. View attachment 1879 For none monster owner that rear light is here on a monster View attachment 1883 Next picture represents camera on with rear light on and LED torch shining right in to the lens of the camera from about 4 - 5 cm View attachment 1880 Finally where my screen will be located but I might go for bigger screen then this. View attachment 1882
So did any of you guys mounted theirs? I went for a big test ride today, I went to London city centre in rain. I must say it worked quite well main issue I had was I kept looking first where mirror should be to realise shit not there. After sometime I started looking in correct place 1 time out of 3 so needs work. Lol. I had cars on high beam right at my back I could still see car, I had a big scooter thing with I think high beam on right at my pipe as well, all worked I could still see riders head. I need to get around to test night operation where I am actually on the road. Might do that on Friday.
sorry about the pic took it on my phone wile holding the camera with the other will post more when done
its a 3" monitor form china cost £14 i got two of them one for each side of the clocks with the cameras mounted under the seat
John a tip you will have to ride for couple of days fighting the urge to look in to mirrors not camera
I have enough trouble trying to get use to the cameras as well as the mirrors on the lorry, I cannot imagine having them on the bike.
