Rear View Camera

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by philg25, Sep 15, 2014.

  1. If you still want to do this, you could mount an iPhone or Android phone in a suitable place for viewing, then hook it up to a Sony AS30 Action Cam. The phone connects to the camera by wifi and acts a viewfinder.

  2. Actually considered this with my gopro but the problem is it will only connect when the phone has 3g and even then I find the picture has a slight delay which would defeat the purpose, particularly for overtakes etc.

  3. Viewing Medusa via mirrors is also the safest thing for me. Besides I can always chew some minty breath freshener. Fuck all you can do about your face.

  10. Are you sure you're doing it right?... ;)

  11. duno, seems like i attract them tho.

  12. Yes I did this on my 1098. It was a real life saver at times. I only bought a cheap wired system off ebay for about £40. You can get the wireless ones which may be easier to install rather than messing about running the wires from the rear camera to the screen up front. I mounted the camera just above the number plate light. There is no ideal place to mount the screen I had a dark tinted screen on my bike which I drilled a hole through and mounted the screen on the backside just above the dash (see last pic). The dark screen also prevents reflection when it's sunny. I left my mirrors on aswell as it all helps. You don't get HD quality but it's good for keeping an eye on what's sneaking up behind you in that blind spot, which lets be honest is a huge blind spot. It's especially good for spotting other bikes coming up behind!.

  13. It confuses the hell out of me too - why is that

  14. Link? I want one for £40 :)

  15. Just type 'rear view camera' on ebay and there are hundreds. I can't remember what make mine was but I think the screen is about 4inch which is plenty big enough anything bigger and its going to get in the way.

  16.
  17. Thanks - do they wire direct to the battery and do you just cut off reversing wire?

  18. Yes. I ran the wiring from both the camera and the screen to battery then my mate who's an auto electrician wired it though the ignition so it turns on/off with the key. There is no reverse wire so to speak. I think the way it works with a car and reverse is, if you wire it to the reverse lights, when you select reverse and the reversing lights come on so does the camera. Obviously a bike hasn't got reverse so it's not an issue. The trickiest bit about fitting was running the wire from the camera back to the battery. I took it through the number plate holder, under the seat unit between the undertray then under the seat to make a neat job.

  19. So I guess you can just wire it direct to the battery. Is there an on/off switch on the screen unit to turn it on if you don't wire it to the ignition? I don't like electrickery as it is black magic.

  20. Yeah I know what you mean. No there isn't an on/off switch on this. That's not to say you can buy them. To be honest I never thought about it when I bought mine, if I had I would have bought one with a switch just for the ease of fitting.
