1200 Enduro Recommended Chain And Sprockets

  1. I would also add that I have had many chains over the years. DID is ok, but nothing compared to the Afam chain now on, so far about 16500 miles and hardly worn. Have had 3 adjustments in that time, the first is about after 300 miles then hardly ever at all. I lube the chain every 300 miles or so. Great bit of kit, but I also say that good chain maintenance is important. I do give the chain a proper clean with paraffin about every 5000 miles or it should be min annually done.

  2. Hi guys! Does anyone have experience with 1260 Enduro with 45T rear sprocket (+2T)? Im sure 15T/45T combo makes the ride more lively, but Im a bit concerned about highway touring and fuel consumption impact.

  3. Excellent mileage for a chain.

  4. There is no need to automatically replace the sockets when replacing the chain imo.

My OEM chain went south at 19,000 miles, put on a DID, lube every 300, clean every 600, and it lasted until the 54,000 service.

    OEM sprockets = 54,000 miles
    DID chain = 35,000 miles

To be fair the chain needed much more care after 30,000, was only keeping for science to see absolute life.

I use the Dupont chain wax and good old Kerosene.

  5. Unfortunately theres no guide plate with the Enduro.

  6. Chains wear out because the front sprocket wears out. When the front sprocket wears all the power is applied to only one or two teeth at a time. To make a fantastic claim that your front sprocket lasted 54k miles simply ignores the fact that it was well worn out at 35k mi.

  7. Chain should be decidedly loose on the Enduro, the measurement from chain pin to swingarm is 56 to 58mm. It's in the manual. Bike is supposed to be in urban setting, on sidestand and lowest preload.

  8. 56 to 58mm on the Enduro. i.e. loose!

  9. Am I reading that correctly 145,000 miles? If that’s what you’re getting out of a chain and sprocket what’s your secret?

  10. Yes you're reading it correctly.

My secret is typing to one many 0's

  11. 56 to 58 is what it was set to. Manual and swing arm sticker states touring mode default suspension settings on side stand.

Anyway I went out today and checked it again. Somehow slack was only 40mm so I did it all again. This time it's sorted ok, no idea where the mistake was made before but it's sorted. Only difference is that this time, after it's all sorted, I've measured the chain to swing arm whilst on the main stand so it should be easier to do in the future.

    Thanks for all the replies
