All products and all brands have problems. Nothing new there then Except kinder eggs. Never had a problem with a kinder egg surprise
What a nightmare. Did your commute involve much slow traffic? Overheating is a bit of a comfort issue for me but nothing has melted....yet.
yeah, bits are slow, other bits are fairly fast, nothing unusual, I've been commuting in london for 10 years now. 4x r1's , 3x or 2 (can't remember) zx6r, ducati 996 , never really had any issues. ducat's sales pitch on 1199 is that it is track/street/ road bike, right? still love it. so far everything been sorted under warranty , so didn't really cost me anything.
This is very interesting. The part about 'kick stand bolt fell out causing the kickstand to home partway off' rings a bell as I have also had issues with my side stand. Thanks for posting.
Nice mix in rides. My mistake in believing the hype in the 1199. It's a pretty brutal ride at slow speed - in sport - and until I got the suspension wound back, my eyeballs were rattling in my sockets by the time I got to work. Hats off to you in London.
Ok, so the bike has been in the dealer for a few days now. The power loss issue can be replicated by pouring water on the front end of the machine. Parts on order so I may have it back in time for the weekend. The courtesy bike was a a small monster which I not really my cup of tea. Broke out the 955 Daytona for a spin. The old girl still brings a smile to my face
slow speed is a joke. hope you had chain/sprocket mod installed? really does help. unless newer ones come with it as standard? i actually still have r1 (early red-white 4xv one) which i don't ride and just keep to look at , but take it out every w-end just to keep it moving. that bike is 17 years old and feels a lot more accomplished at low speed/mid range. once you go over 60 in 1st , obviously 1199 is super duper.
He best of got rid as 1299 out cant have not the latest model sitting in ones garage looking pretty doing nothing can one lol.
It seems you can be lucky or unlucky where the 1199 is concerned my bike is one of the early ones and I've done 3.5 k on it. Other than the indicator fault I haven't had much grief - yet, touch wood, fingers crossed etc!. However when I bought my 1098 (second hand) it got stuck in gear on my maiden voyage on it after just 7 miles! The gear selector had jammed under the barrel - or something like that!. It was a four hour job and big bill to sort it. I was informed it was a common fault with the 1098 and they'd seen it several times before. I was told if it did it again the engine would have to come out to sort it and it would cost £1k. I asked what the likelihood of that would be and was told in short that it may never happen again or it could happen on my way home, they didn't know!. From then on It hung over me every time I thought about the bike. The sensible thing would have been to get rid and get more reliable bike, but the bike was fantastic and when I was riding it I forgot about the pending doom, as riding a Ducati is like nothing else that any other manufacturer can match. I think owning a Ducati as opposed to a bike by another manufacturer is a bit like dating a supermodel as opposed to the quirky looking fat bird that works at the local butchers. Yes she'll be reliable, never let you down,be happy with half a lager and bag of chips on a Saturday night, wash your skiddy underpants without moaning and your mum will love her because she brings free cuts of meat home for tea. BUT it's all a bit dull and predictable. On the other hand even though there's an element of danger involved, the drop dead gorgeous yet unpredictable supermodel who will no doubt have some sort of personality disorder and expensive bad habits will bring excitement and fun that can't be matched and even though you know it may end it tears - your tears, you'll never want to give it up!.
I've seen that on a few 2012 bikes, apparently it's a common fault. I'm not sure if they did something to fix it with the later ones.
thing is, if you want a boring straight 4, you never need to tinker. with a twin , you have to accept the vibrations will, and do make stuff fall off. Ducatis are for tinkerers, you need to check all nuts and bolts regularly , if that annoys you, get a jap bike. Personally, I love it!
