Darn it....saw the little wear strips showing on my tread today...so new tyres are due soon. One question I have to the members here....you all seem to be raving about other tyres especially the PR3's, why is no one replacing with the pirelli scorpions? Ducati and pirelli made a big show of how the scorpions were designed especially for the mutley bla bla bla, so i am simply surprised to see most people on the forum recommending something else.... Curious? .
I did consider it, but they squared off pretty quickly and as I'm only riding on the road I was happy to go for road tyres. If I ever get to the stage of doing some off road then I would probably consider the scorpions again.
Personal opinion, but they don't grip as well as the PR3s in the cold and wet, take a while to warm up, and even when they are warm, don't inspire huge amounts of confidence. There are, I am sure, many reasons for this, but as the bike (for me) is to be used 99% of the time on the road, road tyres are the way to go (for me). If you asked me to sum up the Scorpions in one word, it would be "wooden". BUT... and this is the big "but", it depends on what you are going to use the bike for, and also how you like the bike to "feel". For me, on the road, in the dry and in the cold greasy wet, the PR3s to a great job of lasting well, whilst giving great grip in all conditions (especially cold and wet) AND handling well. They just seem to "suit" the Multi, and this is backed by the number of people who rate them. Would this be the same if we all rode off road, or on trackdays? No. The PR3 could probably cope, but wouldn't be ideal....
Thanks guys I am with you...road mainly...well actually i still have to go off the tar....so much for "ADVENTURE" biking haha....not too much adventure in the UK i suppose. Anyway I agree, I want a tyre that gives me longer life. I am not a racer, and not off road, so road, hard compound it must be!
