Bit of an updateI seem to have a self fixing car as tonight it seems to have fixed itself! I now have 2 working headlights and fingers crossed it will stay that way. I was slighty flumoxed as googling Audi A4 Ballast failures every one says that they experienced flickering bulbs leading eventually to failure. It seems there is also a link between bumpy roads causing the problem. Mine just didnt work and now does!
I have just stuck 4 new tyres on the thing, so could really do with it starying all good till at least after Xmas
If this is how they design cars Christ knows how ducati will turn out. Awful motors. Vorsprung tecknik more like awful techniques .
Halfords are creating a mini Industry from this alone it seems but the employees tackling the more complex replacements seem to get little recognition for it.
Ahh yes changing bulbs on modern cars is horrible. Scuffed knuckles a plenty. Be glad you don't have a Renault Megane. You have to take off the front wheel too. Got the bulb change in my 2004 Civic down to a tee thou....which took 5 years to learn
£150 to change a bulb I was gob smacked that's for RS4 Thank goodness I can change very easily the bulb on my old astra
Some smug faced 17 year old changed my bulb at Halfords last week......took him an hour and a half, scratched knuckles and every tool Halfords had in the shop, best £6 I've ever spent.
all you have to remember is this - your car is designed to be assembled on the line as cheaply and quickly as possible. Maintenance is for main dealers to whom you gladly pay inflated service costs in order to keep your warranty up to date and then of course after the warranty expires you'd obviously want a new one. Also HID units are also a different bag because of the lifespan of the bulb, so two hours labour every death of a pope is nothing compared to the cost of the OEM bulb (or replacement lamp unit). On conventional lamps you'll find that there are access areas designed in. That and the fact that nothing's designed with home maintenance in mind these days,
he he, ring and find out how much for the whole headlamp assembly! that'll give thee a nosebleed and make no mistake
I was stopped by the Police last week 'cause I had a headlight out. They gave me a pink slip and told me I had 21 days to rectify the fault. It took me less than 5 minutes to change the H4 bulb and then I had to get it checked by the MOT tester at Quickfit. The Police had written down the wrong light (nearside rather than farside) but the tester told me he is only allowed to check the fault as noted on the form. I can't, however fault VW for their design and also spotted that it is almost identical to my Audi A4 so full marks there too.
this is something im definately going to be checking out when i buy my next dad wagon....around March time im getting rid of current sex chariot (mazda 6) to get a slightly less old one...i know that after 2007 they went to silly headlights and no spare wheel....so if i buy another mazda it will be a 2006 then..
Audi are gaining an exclusive reputation. A friend had an RS6 and if you've evr looked under the bonnet! One of the DRL led lights failed and was replaced by the dealer (under Warranty on a pre-owned car). Apparently they told him they have to drop the engine to change this light unit.....puts changing the Multistrada lights into perspective (Ok I only changed the main beams!). It was an awesome 570 bhp beast though
