  1. Thanks to Lumbux's post as inspiration I have just had it bought for me as a birthday present by the missus so roll on the restoration

  2. She doesn't think much of you, then..........didn't exactly empty her purse for you......;)

  3. Good to here another one saved, strange mine was bought by my wife as a wedding present. She's regreated it ever since!!

  4. Mine was in the same condition,i rescued it from a damp garage in glasgow where it stood for 12 years....a bit of powder coat and paint on the engine etc,i left the paint which is scabby round the edge but ok,just get rid of the rust, stainless bolts and a bit of zinc,it stands me to £900 ...rescue it. 20140711_211203.jpg

  5. Those wheels look really shit without the extra disc...

Totally agree though, a good clean can totally change a bike.

  6. I quite like the 1 disc effect!
Mine stands me in for about £1300, that includes changing the exhaust. Strange all three bikes have 50,000 miles on them(mine, rcv4 and yours)
There will be holes in the tank, you might not think so, but they'll be under the paint, both mine have and I think rcv4's did too!! Keep us upto date and what's the frame number if that's not a too personal question??

  7. I will keep you all posted and may well be hounding Lumbux and rcv4 for help on this

  8. Always happy to help if I can, good luck

  9. Holes in the tank? Feel your pain... I recently picked up a 750 and within 24 hours it had become a very over-priced fixer-upper... I was crying into my wine over it again last night.

Get it sorted though and you'll have a sense of having saved something :)

  10. Look at it this way.......

.....Even if you had got it for a lot less, you would have still ended up spending a fortune on getting spares and other stuff for it........

....at least you can flog some of it off and recoup some loss.........that carbon mudguard and carbon hugger will be wanted by someone and I'm sure you know what they can cost secondhand.....you could nearly get a tank for what they could bring in.

I would even get rid of that flip up fairing despite they save a lot of wind blast......I just don't like the look of them.

  11. A leaking tank is no problem, mine was in right state inside, and leaking,i cleaned the inside the best i could brazed a patch on the bottom and sealed it,i managed not to damage the paint in the process.

  12. Fire3500 had better take a trip up to you, so you can do his for him.......;)

  13. Is it as bad as mine was? 20131203_165512.jpg

  14. Fibre glass it, that's what I've done with mine. :upyeah:

  15. Might not last as long as brazing, but at least it won't blow up.....................(as long as you don't mix up too much resin).

  16. Well I have actually laid eyes on it today, and it's not that bad. The bodywork is in good nick with only some paint missing on the side of the front mudguard and where the seat has rubbed on the side panels. The tank seems solid after a quick tap test, and still has 25 year old fuel in it! The front brake has still got some pressure but the clutch is a dead as a dodo. The engine is a ball of aluminium oxide but is solid underneath all that, the belts are fragile but still in one piece but the rollers are rusted solid.

The foot controls are sized, the wheels will need a re-paint as will all the fairing stays, and frame. It was last taxed in 89 and I think the reason it has been laid up is probably the clutch slave has failed, which if I remember correctly is a right pain in the arris to sort.

  17. The clutch slave is a pain, but I believe is still avalible from ducati. There is some info on rebuilding them on the ducatipaso.org as the engine is the same as the 750 sport. I've just bought new seals for mine, I'll PM you the details, only about £8, if the bearing is ok on the slave, just seal change and check the housing for boy, lick of paint, new belts and rollers, oil change and away you go. Oh and carb clean, the easy bit!!
