Listening to Simon Calder on the radio last week and he said the whole process is awash with opportunist rip off merchants and misinformation with lots of companies linked though and backed by the gov website offering things like £85 fit to fly certificates, (you don’t actually need to carry out any test to leave the uk). https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/testing-travel-pcr-uk-covid-b1905904.html
No you don’t. But it’s the country you’re flying to that counts. They often have a similar requirement to cross their border as say, the U.K.
Did you actually register it on their website, create a URN and apply that to your samples you sent back........I know a friend that did exactly the same as you with no result back until I decided to read the instructions!
I might be being picky but when ever was is a Mickey Mouse lateral flow test good enough for travelling abroad either way? Surely it has to be a PCR test...and has always been that way?
Read the small print on the UK.Gov web site. We took NHS testing kits and they are not valid for outside the UK. Andy
Yes Andy, That was my failure point. The test reference required to complete the registration was on my purchase email that was permanently deleted by my cloud service. I know I am bad and deserve punishment and I beg for mercy.
I blame you ..full stop. I did the same thing didn't put the URN on the sample so they did nothing with it and it disappeared. No one asked me for a test or result..... they sent me another that I read the instructions this time and that was completed..
Ah ok I knew the NHS tests weren’t valid . I thought you had some from a third party supplier. Mine haven’t turned up yet right enough!
Returned home from Menorca last Thursday, did test in a lab in airport for £26 an hour before checking in, had result in 30mins emailed to me. Ordered a PCR test to get ref number to fill locater form out to enter UK & be delivered to do the day 2 test - should have arrived on Sunday …..still waiting for this to be delivered now. Someone is making a lot of money from this ridiculous system !
I’m flying to France with BA on Monday for a cycling trip. They sent me a link to an app they are using called Verifly, its basically a way of getting idiots like me to make sure I’ve got all thats required by law (that the flight operators have to check) all completed and all in one place. An electronic check list and store of the info. I’m sure there will be a few comments about it being a tracking app and a violation of my liberties and various other bollocks but just by following the guidance on the app it could prevent problems.
Lateral flow is absolutely allowed as a pre departure test to enter the UK. Flying back from Germany today. Lateral flow test locally was free. Lateral flow test done for travel from Italy 10 days ago was 15 euros. Don't get ripped off by sovereign UK prices.
We've ordered some to take to Spain with us which are lateral flow, but again state EU approved etc, and will still look at getting a PCR to do also, the challenge is that there are 40 odd of us going and most have already purchased these kits, so I guess we will see what happens when we try to come home! There was still the option to get the PCR test done at the circuit but it's 100 Euro and they never even replied to the email about booking
If you are flying in, when you arrive check what is available at the airport for your return trip. In my brief experience there could be a cheap and very quick service to get you on your plane home.
