I have a http://www.bmwbikes.co.uk/rider-equipment/rider-accessories/jacket-trousers/airshell-jacket/ for when it is hot but BMW do not import the equivalent trousers for some reason. With the liner and a Cold Killers shell I have used this jacket down to low single figures comfortably.
Short sleeve leathers - simples! Keep the tan topped up or get rid of unwanted tattoo's, your choice... They also do fingerless leather gloves with carbon knuckle protectors, so presumably there is a market... Mr Bimble.
the thing is experience is a wonderful thing and until people experience the feeling of bare skin mixing with tarmac its their choice but I cringe when I see individuals dressed as they are in this weather I learnt at an early age I am not indestructible and still have the scars and end of the day it only illegal to ride without a helmet but not without clean underwear
sorry, it was me in the Lycra bottoms and bra, I was in a rush, and was only enroute to a eurothrash.
seriously, I saw a pillion in a T and jeans yesterday in Malton. He was without helmet. WTF! Maybe he was the helmet?
Rode to holland once in jeans ,flip flops and t shirt on a vespa. Piss pot shades and a smile....biggest risk was sunburn and not being able to find jaffa cakes in the middle of the night..
Not many wear full leathers here in NZ, I don't even own any, just a leather Jacket and Draggin' Jeans, Sidi Boots, Gloves and Shoei Helmet.
Ha. Good point. I was doing 50 mph (Suzuki GP 100) but the bumble bee was presumably not stationary and was travelling towards me. Therefore the combined impact velocity must have been nearer 60 mph. Nasty. Do bumble bee sting? Good job it didn't strike arse first.
I still wear an open face, mostly with a visor, sometimes with goggles but at the very least my specs. My choice of eye protection has not yet lost a battle with an insect, but based on years of experience I'm aware it's possible.... I prefer an open face because I can hear more, and see more,of what's going on around me,in other words I'd rather know what others are doing and react accordingly, than swaddle myself in layers of safety to protect myself from what others might do. All the leather and fibreglass in the world won't protect you from the most likely thing to hurt you,and that is your own idiocy.
I guess the UKs crappy wet climate means leathers are more 'useful' than most other places. We were in Naples, Italy recently and that was quite something. Never mind a rider in no safety gear, there were whole families riding on the same bike with no safety gear haha. I tend to be a rather excitable rider and I almost always wear leather as a rule. I dont really like full baby-grow on the roads but I use separate leather trousers and jacket, especially since taking a few falls. That said if I was just popping to the shops or into town and taking it easy then I wouldn't be too bothered about doing it in a g-string and flip flops.
My dad mentioned this trick when he was in the Royal Marines. Just the tights mind you, not the suspenders. Back on topic, who's bothered who wears what.... It's entirely up to them. Me? I usually dress with an off in mind. But on me hols I blended in with the Spaniards on me scooter. Bollox the leathers at 38 deg C. Choice people, choice.... Your choice.
When he told you he didn't wear the suspenders he was probably lying haha. One of the guys at 42 Commando had some 'lucky knickers' that he'd stole off some poor girl he trapped and brought back to camp one night. They were a tiny little g-string and it was plain wrong to have a hairy b*ll sack in there! He would wear them every Friday down on the town and always seemed to find another girl of questionable morals who liked them!
