Used to love watching ‘A round with Alliss’. I suppose I’d better use my Peter Alliss trivia:- he was the largest baby born in Europe in 1931; 14lbs 10oz.
A golfing legend, commentated on major competitions for longer than I can remember, will be genuinely missed by thousands. RIP.
Chuck Yeager: First pilot to fly supersonic dies aged 97 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55225903
Great pioneer of flight and also the early space programme. Fly to the stars. (*first supersonic in level flight)
RIP Chuck. I would imagine going supersonic for the first time is akin to sailing off the edge of what was perceived as a flat world. It really was flying into the unknown, and a negative outcome would have had us saying RIP all those years ago. Brave man indeed!
Must have been amazing to do that in 1947.........I know how I felt in 1966 when my Enfield 500 single threw me up in the air when the kickstart spat back.
