My final diversion ( apologies) from the RIP 'esque nature of the thread. I understood Grizzly bears are brown bears but not all brown bears are grizzly bears. When I spent time in Alaska backwoods/Shuyak Island etc some moons back the rangers told us about black and brown bears, one can climb trees and one can't, so when a bear is going for you, one had to endeavour to determine which colour it was and therefore whether to climb that tree , or play dead. How much time you had to distinguish between black and brown wasn't likely to be very long..... best option, carry lots of bells, and ring em! Back to the death
